Dave+Amy
Well thanks to Phoenix and Fishybiz, I was finally able to renovate my tank a bit today with some sag and java ferns: a photo of some of my Discus - hard to get all of them to stand still These are my new Angels that I'm currently setting up a 200L display tank for:

Dave+Amy
Phoenix - Yeah the Sag is already spreading runners (I admit I melted some by accident by waterchange being too hot - but growing back nicely lol)! Can't wait for them to lengthen a bit to make the Discus stand out more and to hide those ugly filter tubings  Thanks Paul - Dave can probably tell you how snappy I get while I'm renovating lol but the final result is worth it get a big satisfaction out of it! Navarre
Great start. well done. If you dont mind I might suggest that you tilt your heater a little. This means that the "hot water" rises up and away from your heater. That in turns provides a great heating surface without the heater flicking on and off thus extending its working life. HTH Navarre

HTH Navarre really? I'll tilt them tonight. Does it make them cheaper to run in winter as well? lol...wishing anyway. I only feed those Angels twice a day one pinch each time and they're constantly fat - no idea how they maintain it  I'm thinking a dark substrate with Val and various swords in the background for the Angel tank. alanco
Wow, looks very nice running c02 sys in there?
Dave+Amy
nope no CO2 at all - just fert balls by the roots of the swords and dosing of Flourish Excel WHEN I figure out how to install a CO2 sys I will lol - not very technology savy
alanco
Wow thats really good for no c02 system. c02 is really DIY Is a link to the info http://www.fishforever.co.uk/carbondioxide.html It would look like a forest with co2 lol
Dave+Amy
with a CO2 system will I have to increase the aeration? To be honest Fishybiz gave me those giant Java fern plants - the smaller and darker leafed Java fern next to them are my own ones, don't know whether it's a diff species or just grown under diff conditions. But that giant sword in the pic is sprouting a new leaf twice a week just on the fert balls alone
phoenix44
you will have to reduce surface agitation with CO2 injection. I run my DIY CO2 through my external filter.
Dave+Amy
but would that affect the fish in a bad way? decreased circulation and all?
phoenix44
I still have very high water flow and current in the tank. 2 fluval 405's and a eheim 2010 internal filter that has an air pump attached to it.. Theory was the majority of the CO2 diffused into the water in the pipes and cannister etc...
Caper
I like, very nice indeed Caper
RochelleMay
What substrate are you using? I love the look of lighter stones. We have just brought a new tank its so exciting re arranging everything you did an awesome job!
Dave+Amy
thanks for the feedback peeps won't be long until I get bored and renovate again haha RochelleMay - I have Autumn harvest (sml-med grain) as my gravel, they tend to illuminate the tank more is my theory lol

Dave+Amy
but how do you prevent the build up of gunk with Riccia?
phoenix44
you have to keep trimming it where the light does not reach apparently. such an awesome plant though. will make your tank look even better! how are the plants coming along now?
