whetu
I went looking for Glosso suppliers here in Auckland and discovered a very helpful bunch of people. Not only do they have plenty of glosso, but they also have other native plants for sale that are suitable for fresh water aquariums! :bounce: Oratia Native Plant Nursery Ltd. 625 West Coast Rd, Oratia, Auckland Postal: 64 Parker Rd, Oratia, Auckland 1007 Ph: (09) 818 6467 ~ Fax: (09) 818 6457 http://www.oratianatives.co.nz Here's the email I got from them in response to my enquiry about glosso (I had mentioned that there were a few people on here keen to find it): Hi Yes we have stock plants of Glossostigma and could supply a considerable number given adequate notice. We have trialled it in aquariums and it certainly is a very successful plant although some fish do eat it. If you want plants the fish eat it seems the floating fern Azolla filiculoides is most appetising. Other species suitable are Chara globularis, Myriophyllum species, Triglochin striatum, Isoetes kirkii, Ranunculus amphitrichus, and Lilaeopsis species. Hope you can trial these and encourage their use instead of exotic aquarium plants which become weeds in the wild. Please issue the advice that the exotics should be disposed of in a safe manner. regards Geoff Davidson I'm intending to get some glosso and lilaeopsis from them in the near future as they are both very attractive plants that are already popular and proven in the hobby. Is anyone familiar with any of the others he mentioned? Azolla filiculoides Chara globularis Myriophyllum Triglochin striatum Isoetes kirkii Ranunculus amphitrichus I know people who have dealt with Oratia Native Plant Nursery before (for terrestrial plants) and they have always found them very helpful so I'm looking forward to doing some more research and trying some of those plants in my tank! :bounce:

alanmin4304
Most of those plants, including glosso, will need strong light and often don't like it too warm (being from a temperate climate zone). They are good marginals as they get plenty of light being emersed.
Neon
I've been to the Oratia nursery before and it's cool. That was before I got into fish keeping though so I didn't notice if they had aquatic plants. I bought some glosso the other month from Kings Plant Barn. They have it in their pond plant section. It seems to be doing ok in my pond outside (submersed) and semi-okay in my tank inside :-?
