crazyzoo
I have 2 large tanks set up, but not sure which are the best fish to go with each other. I have Clown Loaches (17), Marble Angel fish (2), Honey Gourami (2), Blue Spot Gourami (2), Blue Dolphin Cichlids (13) and 2 large Pleco (which are separated as they fight). I currently have my Blue Dolphins with a Pleco and the 2 Honey Gourami's and have been told that it is not a good idea?! They all seem to be fine and not fighting....any suggestions? ryanjury
How big are your tanks? Ideally you should only really keep the dolphins with the pleco, dolphins are not really suitable tank mates for angels or gourami's, some people like to say they are ok to make a sale but it they are not.. Although dolphins are pretty laid back for africans they do get big and can pack a punch when trying to stake a claim, not to mention the differences in preferred water conditions (yes fish will adjust but it is not ideal). I would recommend that if you don't keep them with africans at least keep them with other larger more robust fish that can handle themselves (large cichilds, large school fish silver sharks etc). How big are the dolphins? You are probably having no problems with them because they are small but I have had people who have brought them off me and decided (against my advice and without my knowledge) to put them in community tanks and they have wiped them out once they reached 5-6cm. You would also need a descent sized tank probably 5ft or more for when your 13 dolphins do mature (assuming they are young). http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c_moorii.php If I was you I would setup one of your tank for africans with the dolphins and one pleco, and the other for a community type setup. crazyzoo
One tank is 600 litres, the other is 250l. The dolphins are in the smaller one, this is set to their preferred conditions.....but when I put them in there they went into hiding until I put my big gourami's in there. In saying that they are only between 3 and 6cm, and the gourami's have been in there for about 4 weeks now, so maybe I should put the gouramis back into my other tank since the dolphins appear settled.
