tracytrout
I have a batch of 2 week old Dwarf Honey Gold Gourami fry (approx 50 fry) which appear to be growing very slow BUT I'm only going by the growth rate of other fish I've bred. They fry are currently between 3-4mm...is this ok for their age? :-? Have been feeding microworms, decap and live baby brine shrimp. They are in a breeding tank approx 30w x 60d x 45h cms. Water level is approx 25cms deep, temp 26-27C and have well fitted lid. I did a google search to see if I could find any articles on growth rates solely for this type of gourami but drew a blank  . Hopefully someone out there has bred these and can help me please
ryanjury
I don't know what the growth rate should be, but sounds like you are giving them the best food for getting good growth, how often are you changing the water?
tracytrout
Hiya Ryan Have done 3 very partial water changes over the last 10 days and 1 water change of about 20% today...didn;t want to do too many as I was told if the temperature fluctuates too much it can affect the development of their labyrinth? ryanjury
Yeah changes in water temp and also cold air (I used glad wrap around the top of the tank when I did fighters years ago) can affect the labyrinth development.. I would say you have done all you can to get them growing fast good luck
Olly
they grow pathetically slowly, in my experience. I bred dwarf honey gouramis and blue dwarfs and they both grew way slower than anything else I've bred
tracytrout
Thanks Ryan and Olly ....really just needed to hear what you've both said, nothing like a little reassurance to know you're on the right track and not starving your fish to death
alanmin4304
The small gouramis are a bit of a pain because they have very small fry, grow slowly and are imported mature. It therefore takes a long time to get them to a comparable state as imported ones
tracytrout
Thanks Alan Great to know this as I'm happy to plug away and grow them out . Until I added this posting I thought I may have somehow stunted their growth :-? so am relieved
alanmin4304
With all gouramis I found that no matter how well you feed them there will be a considerable difference in growth rate. If you seperate them into groups about the same size the smaller ones will catch up better. Lots of water changes helps as well.
