Haha, Ouch, $575 NZ to replace over 40,000 hours approximately $50 worth of fluoro tubes and save $160 worth of electricity. That's $365 more. So, your labor cost to replace a tube would have to be $73(Changing 5 times) for you to break even.

As I said with the Eheim USB filter; it's new technology, it's going to cost a bomb. Give it a few years and it will get cheaper... also and off shoot of affordable LED fluoros means that traditional tube technology will also get cheaper.

The article states the tube has been designed for the likes of tunnels etc - in other words, difficult, high labour cost areas to service. Replacement once every 4 years would save a lot of money in this situation as the labour cost for 3 replacements would likely outway cheaper tubes.
