Adrienne
Have been asked on tm what sized tank is recommended for breeding a pair of BN. I don't know. What do you suggest? Thanks
ryanjury
Depends on heaps of things.. They would probably quite happily breed in a 1ft tank but would quickly pollute/over populate it. I would say min of 2ft so they have a little room.
kiwiplymouth
I breed mine in a 70L 2 footer and remove 50-60% of the young to a growing on tank at around 2cm. I works well for me.
SamH
I bought two young BN's from Animates, not for breeding but in hope of a cleaner tank. One sprouted Bristles, the other didn't. There was alot a chasing and a bit of aggression but suddenly, the male stayed under his log. A few days later, little fry appeared. I caught 15 when they lost their yolk sacks but only 8 survived. I moved the pair into a 54 Litre when their tank needed deconstruction and a few days later they spawned again! I saw many eggs but can only count 5 fry. In my opinion, based on my experince with these fish, as long as there are enough spawing sites and hiding spots, they shall spawn.
Jenna
I bought a young BN when I first set up my first tank. She turned out to be a she, then when I picked up 2 males on TM and found fry 10 days after they went into the tank, I realised they weren't particularly difficult to breed. One of the males disappears for long periods of time and I don't really see him often  . I don't have a separate tank, they are in my 140L community tank, the fry are still coming at regular intervals, and the mortality rate is pretty good as far as I can tell (way too many to count ). firefish
I breed my gbas in a 100 litre tank. Then, i take out the babies when they're around the wriggler stage and put them in floatining containers and when they get a bit bigger into a 50 litre tank. Has worked quite well for me
lmsmith
I breed them in my 3 ft. Well, not so much as breed, but feed. The daddy goes into his home, then babies appear. About 4 days after he comes out of his home, he goes back in and has more babies. I've had 4 sets of fry since March 18, after 2 years of no babies, no matter how hard I breed them. I don't take the babies out, except ones I get rid of.
