aaron11
:bounce: oh you lucky thing re the drift wood I got family going away i asked them to get some drift wood You got to make sure its from normal lake not salt water or bye bye fish lol so I was told And yes my young friend I dont want the guppies dying I Think thats the blue one, im happy with the strains i got some of my babies have blue in them so have to see You wouldnt beleive it alanco there is more babies :bounce:
Adrienne
You got to make sure its from normal lake not salt water Its better that the wood has come from the sea than a lake as its likely to be cleaner. Either way it pays to wash it thoroughly (waterblast if its big enough) or boil it to make sure all the nasties are out of it.
aaron11
thanks adoge I told my friend he said dont be stupid it can come from the sea I was told by a friend just the fresh water wood not sea Thanks I have one peice lol that i had for yrs and it had dried out i cleaned that and soaked it Ohhhh i got friends going away to beach and lake this week I will ask them to get me some wood cheers
Caryl
I get my driftwood from the mouth of the Hokitika river. It washes down the river then gets stuck in the sand where it gets washed by the sea. The wood doesn't absorb salt so as long as you give it a good rinse before adding it to the tank it will be fine. alanco
i was going to say ,drift wood from the sea is alright if you boil it and wash it. and wow really does the wood not absorb the salt from the water?
ryanjury
Driftwood from the sea that has absorbed salt etc is best because the salt should have killed any freshwater weeds or bugs that may take over your tank and might kill your fish.. Soak the wood for a while if your really concerned but I just hose it and chuck it in, a little salt wont hurt guppies at all. Blue guppies that I have are neon blue tuxedo but I think there are different strains around as well, nice fish that's for sure and growing real fast on decap etc

aaron11
alanco you could get more drift wood and sell it on trademe hehe
ryanjury
lol yeah I crack up when I see driftwood on trademe each to their own though I guess decap brine shrimp is awesome and although by the gm its expensive I will only go through 100gms a year feeding out to thousands of fry daily so works out cheaper in the long run. Adrienne
I for one would pay a reasonable amount for a decent sized piece of driftwood for my 5ft tank.
