cichlid7
can the diy sugar yeast mix C02 cause any problems in the tank??
supasi
I assume you are meaning if it leaks into the tank? Will cause cloudy water and if not cleaned up can cause a bacterial bloom. Its only happened to me once and the fish showed no ill effects. Mind you i cleand it up as soon as i found it.
cichlid7
no i am just setting it up on one of my tanks and 2 days after i set it up one of my discus got a few tiny white dots on its side with sort of a stringy spiderweb type thing Just wondering
jc360
i don't do Discuss but isn't that a type of worm or something??? i think Co2 increases the ph level of the tank but i have used this system with no ill affect.
supasi
Dont quote me, but I would guess that the change in PH is stressing the discus. the white dots may be Whitespot caused by stressed fish and the stringy stuff sounds like the fishes mucus shedding. just an idea
cichlid7
I Just checked on it it was only 1 out of 5 discus and heaps of other fish in the tank that had it. i looks fine now I dont think it was white spot it didn't look like it. TM
CO2 will drop the ph as when it disolves with water it produces a week acid. The amount of CO2 going into a tank that size would have little if no effect on the ph. Just keep an eye on them.
alanmin4304
CO2 in water forms carbonic acid and If I remember correctly the pH of coke is about 4.
