joliet
Say hello to my latest tank edition .. I got given a pregnant Platy (orange with mickey mouse markings) by BnB and noticed the other day she was look rather .. unpregnant. So this morning I came into the lounge and was watching the fish .. then a tiny fry darted out of the Java Moss balls I have at the bottom and proceeded to get gobbled by a Neon. I was shocked, then gutted! My first encounter with a fry and it was so short. So I bought a guppy breeder plastic box thing and scooped the Java Moss out and sorta shuffled it around in a bucket of the tank water and managed to save this one. And I mean only one! So I hope it survives I guess the others just got eaten as she was spawning. Never mind, I am wiser now so will move the female into the trap when she looks really pregnant. The other fish kept pecking at the box trying to eat the fry so I put a bit of Java Moss in with it for it to hide in.

Adrienne
Might still be more as sometimes they dive into the gravel and hide there as well when anyone or thing comes along.

Yeah, I saw one dart into the hole in the drift wood before I tried rescuing this one. We had a good shuffle of the gravel where the moss was but no luck. I hope there are others, I'd hate to think I let them all get eaten
lmsmith
You can tell when they're about to drop because their tummies start looking square. I know it sounds silly, but you learn to pick it pretty quick. If you keep them in the breeder box for too long it can stress them out. I have a few pregnant Guppies too. So what angle do you look at them to see a square?
lmsmith
Side on, where their black dot is starts to stick out and their belly starts to look really square.
