Andrew_W
Are Sodastream bottles suitable for delivering co2 into my tank.... Assuming my regulator fits it, are there any other reasons why it maybe a bad idea.
suphew
Done it, works fine, but the bottle doesn't last long and are expensive to get filled compared to a larger bottle.

Wok
why don't you just use your sodastream system and make soda water, then pour the sodawater into your tank? Some people here used to do it that way to get CO2 into their planted tanks.
Stu :)
Good luck finding a regulator for a soda stream bottle, I thought about using one of their gas bottles to drive the CO2 cannons on my USS Oregon, but gave up just short of ordering raw brass and turning one myself. One source of CO2 bottles for us fish keepers is maybe using CO2 bottle for RC boats- google "RC Naval Combat" or "RC Ship Combat". There's companies like Skunkworks, BDE, Battlers Connection, etc that sell these. For my smaller CO2 cannon ship I modded a 'Nitrous Cracker' with a cheap off-the-shelf regulator to take air pistol CO2 cartridges; which cost basically cost a dime a dozen, is good way to go But... in saying all of that, I have to agree that using the soda stream machine to make soda water is the cheapest and easiest way to add CO2. Andrew_W
I dont have a sodastream machine thingy, lol just looking at the bottle. Paint ball bottles don't fit my regulator.
suphew
I borrowed a regulator from a mate that had one just sitting round. I don't think getting a fitting is a big deal, he is a fitter and turner so maybe he did make it. But you must be able to get fitting's that attach otherwise they wouldn't be able to fill the bottles and if you can get a fitting you can attach a regulator to it. Don't think you could add soda stream water to the tank, well you could but if you added it fast it would screw with your pH, I would think it would be pretty much impossible to add enough to make much difference to the CO2 without it changing you pH. I guess you could try putting some air hose in the cap and running like you would a DYI yeast
alanmin4304
I understand that standard regulators have a different thread so you would need to get or make an adapter.

alanmin4304
It can make a very sharp change in pH.
