jude
Yet another question!!!!!! I just went to some of the links posted recently. One was aquaria.com I think and it mentioned selling plants that are attached to rocks and roots - very expensive. I presume it should be possible to do this myself but what plants? Would I just use a rubber band to attach the plant to the rock until it anchors itself? Can I just drop one or two into my existing plant or should I have a separate tank just for growing plants? fins
I dont know if you can attach all plants to rocks or wood but you can use nylon fishing line. Some good plants to attach are java fern, java moss and some the anubias (spelling) varieties.
jude
That was my other question What plants? I knew I forgot something! Cheers Judy
Caryl
The 3 fins mentioned are the most commonly used to attach to rocks, logs etc. Java fern can also be wedged by the roots into a split in the log or a few roots held down by gravel, or a rock. The others will soon cling. Never totally bury its roots as it prefers them to be above ground. Fishing line works well as does cotton thread. By the time the thread rots the plant will be attached. kim
you can use a rubber band or fishing line or even nylon that you sew clothe with. when the plants are rooted on well just cut it off.
Ira
I've been using rubber bands or cable ties. Mostly because I'm totally useless with using thread to tie them on.
Vjarn
what i did was got my favorite piece of drift wood and pictured my plant on the best place for it (took a while to decide) and then drilled hole the size of the stem halfway through the wood, careful not to go throught, then you drill heaps of small tiny holes that exit the wood, this enables you to wedge the plant in and when the roots grow again they will come out these tiny wholes down the wood and into the gravel and give it a real good look, rocks you would probably do the same but with concrete drills. havent tried that but thanks for the idea
