Andrew_W
well my male is constantly making bubbles nests, but it would appear as though when he sucked up his bubbles they went down the round hole... He is full of air and just floats around or swims on his side, when he swims to the bottom of the tank air comes out (not sure which end), and it looks like one of his eyes is sticking out a bit. Is this normal?
MarkLB
Hi. I don't know if it's normal but it sure doesn't sound it. If air is coming out as you say then I'd guess that eventually it'll come right, only time will tell. Can you put him in another tank with a low water level so he has less distance to travel from top to bottom? Just to make things a little easier on him. Adrienne
I would think that he either has a bacterial infection or he has dropsy. When you look at him from above do his scales stick out so his body looks like a pinecone?
Andrew_W
No unfortunately due to lack of funds, my other tank is bare.. I thought that it was water pressure squeezing the air out of him that was cause air bubbles to come out of him.. He is still making a nest, so I cant imagine he is to worried about it. yeh_buddy
U mentioned one of his seemed to be popping out a bit, just a thought but maybe he has pop eye. Also may be worth getting your water tested to see what its quality is like.
ally07
Doesn't look like dropsy to me.. I reckon he looks fine, and he's still making bubble nests, so probably not too much you need to be worried about.. But if I had to throw out some diagnostics based on the symptoms? Swim bladder infection could cause bloating and irregular swimming patterns.. As for the eye, it might be pop-eye.. But chances are it's all in your mind.. Adrienne
From that pic he looks okay. How much current is in the tank?
Jaide
Is the white patch on top of his head part of his normal colouring?
Andrew_W
Well his eye only looks like its sticking out a bit because there is a white line accross the top of his eye, where it looks like the skin had stretched. From that pic he looks okay. How much current is in the tank? hmm for the size of the tank i would say alot. Is the white patch on top of his head part of his normal colouring? thats flake food....I think, its not on the fish anyways
Andrew_W
he would appear to be swimming fine at the moment, and his eye looks normal And only thing I did was take away my crown loaches hiding spot, cause I never saw them  This was the 1st time I have seen him display, and this was towards the clown loaches, he doesn't even do it at his reflection, is that normal? ally07
I wouldn't worry about the not flaring thing.. My fighters sometimes flare at the females, sometimes they don't.. Sometimes they flare at the mirror, sometimes they don't.. I don't think it's really anything wrong with them, maybe they just don't feel like putting on a show haha.. I reckon a gentle current would be sufficient, since they are mostly found in rice paddies in Thailand where there isn't much water movement. But a bit of current helps keep them active and less prone to fatty liver and all the rest..
Adrienne
You will find that if male fighters have too much current they can not rest upright but tend to lie over on their sides. Its because its too hard to hold the fins and tail up when there's too much water movement.
