Noticed today that my 2nd fluval 404 on my discus tank is not going, have tried everything i can think of to get it started again, but it wont go. No blockages in inlet or outlet hoses.....i get the feeling haloween is playing a part but really need some input please!!! Was going when i did a water change on wednesday.....HELP

open the filter, remove the lid ontop of the impeller, give it a clean, and then put it back in... make sure the little black bit at the end is secure (the lille rubber thing).

It is most probably air. If you pump plunger slowly it should come right, if not then prepare your lips and lungs for a mouth full of fishy water YUCK! If it is rattling then the impeller is unseated and needs to be removed and reseated.

thanks but nothing seems to be working, think the gremlins have taken hold! I hate to be a damsel in distress,,,,but i think i'm missing something simple. Maybe i'm being too impatient but they have been easy enough to start in the past

yes, not a silly q...i am a female trying to operate stuff, but have tried priming it while plugged in but still nothing...dont want to leave it plugged in doing nothing! it did stop between now an the last water change, plugged in the whole time. Have taken it apart, cleaned, put back together....

it is rattling, but not sure if it is just air or the impeller. have tried sucking on the outlet....havn't been able to find the lil gadget to remove the impeller....but wouldn't have thought that it would have changed having not touched the filter before finding out something was up??

lower the outlet to the ground level IN A Bucket...

outlet at ground level works great, but put back up to tank level stops again!

yeah, thought so... just let the pressure build up... that's gravity working... if you can clean the impellor; do so...

slowly raise the outlet back to the tank once pressure is normal.

ok, have tried that, but maybe not slow or patient enough?? would it help if the tank level was lower...higher would prob be better wouldn't it?? just as the outlet is going into a bucket, the tank level drops of course!!

I would say the impeller is stuffed If it's rattling and not pumping water .Replace the impeller and it'll go.

your impellor isnt able to push the water up into the tank... there could be an airbubble in the filter, or the impelor isnt moving round fast enough.

you dont need tools to remove it. should be able to hold the impellor/magnet and pull it out...

must be the impeller, cant have been an air bubble could it or it shouldn't have just randomally stopped, cant get the impreller out myself, will take it into someone tomorrow, thank you all...at least its not the only filter on the tank!!!

Any suggestions on where would be a good place to take it....pupuke? hollywood?

go to the animates in glenfield... that's close.. tell them you spoke to someone on here from the palmy store, and ask them to have a look at the filter for you...
