Caryl
You mean erythromycin? My fish were ok, including bristlenoses.
DiscusDiva
yep, thats the one - if i monitor when would i see signs of any issues?
Caryl
Pretty quickly. My cyano started dying off with 24 hours. You need to keep siphoning it out so it doesn't foul the tank. I never noticed it affect the filter either and was told the filter bacteria was a different sort and not affected by the E. I think alanmin said he lost a tank of fish when he used it but mine were fine, as were fish of others when they used it.
Dixon1990
Where can i get the erythromycin? Ive got a 3foot tank that is growing this out of control!
Caryl
It is a prescription only medicine. Try asking a vet.
alanmin4304
Like any antibiotic there is a risk that it could kill the bacteria in your filter and cause an amonia and nitrite spike but the risk is proportional to the load (stocking rate of fish) on the tank so watch for that. I once lost a tank of fish treating with Erethromycin but have got away with it on other occasions. I have used furan2 and had no problems, but it is not cheap. You use one cap/40 litres, remove what you can and treat again next day then remove what you can again.
