Guest
They don't like super powerful currents as they have long fins and it tires them out. Make sure nothing in the tank nips them. They also love ive food and blood worms. Good luck and post pics when you get one.

axolotl-danio
hi i own a betta (siamese fighter) and an axolotl bettas need a minimum tank size of 7 litres this needs to be heated (25c) and a filter with a low current is a good idea i feed mine nutrafin max betta flake and he loves it good luck
Adrienne
I have rather a lot of fighters - minimum tank size 7litres although I prefer about 18 litres, heater around 24 degrees, very low current. They don't like those trickle filters with the return powerheads at all!. Any current makes it very hard for them to swim because of the long tail and fins. If only have 1 fighter in a tank try a sponge filter powered by an airpump or something similar. A very good community fish - only 1 male to a tank though - preferably keep fin nippers (angelfish, male guppies and barbs) away from them as they may nibble the fighters tail. Lots of food options, flakes, betta pellets, bloodworms, bbs. Will not eat plants and its up to you if you want a planted tank or not. Dave+Amy
hey - excuse my ignorance but what are bbs? I feed mine whiteworms and they go nuts over them..mine don't really like flakes trying to get them to eat it atm
Guest
bbs = baby brine shrimp. What flake do you feed them? I feed mine nutrifin flakes and they love them.
Dave+Amy
tried both Wardley and Nutrifin - they only spit it out...think I've spoilt them rotton with whiteworms and bloodworms that they won't go back to flake...should I not feed them until they will eat flake again? Adrienne
My ones wouldn't 'do' flake either the one time I tried it. Possibly because they had never been fed it before. They probably would eventually but I would be worried more about pollution in the tank from mouldy flake.
Guest
Yeah it took me a while to get my baby fighter onto flake but the tank was a bare bottom and it has a BN in there so I didn't worry about mouldy flake. Are these the fighters you got off me Dave+Amy?
Dave+Amy
yup they sure are yours, babysittn 5 fighters for Dave's lil sis and my own 3 fighters..they are sure getting quite plump from the worms though, the crowntail is really coming through nicely in both the males and females, you've done well with them! Currently looking for a nano tank (30L-ish?) to set up as a betta display with my 3 fighters. They'd rather munch on Discus granules than flake food
