Zabman
Just been trimming my jungle of a 2 ft and have discovered a long stalk with some flowers at the end growing out of my dwarf sag! Nothing spectacular but has given me a real buzz! yay! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Zev
Sag has cute little white flowers, mine hasn't flowered for a long time - probably because I have been neglecting the tank!!
supasi
Doesnt matter what plant it is but I still get a buzz too when my aquatic plants flower. Good one Zabman Mine flowed recently too, and it wasnt even planted , just had a few plants weighed down with lead strip but it still sent up a flower head. Wish crypt flowers were that easy to grow ,wishful thinking
alanmin4304
And now for the big prize you need to work out if you have male or female flowers.
Zabman
haha Alan! I had a look online last night but couldn't find a very descriptive site showing how to ID, but admittedly I did only look for 5 minutes maybe after footy training tonight or tomorrow night will have another go and try to find out. alanmin4304
The male has the stamens and the female the central ovaries. They can produce both but not normally at the same time so that they get fertilized by another plant
alanmin4304
There are pics on the plantgeek site under Sagittaria subulata. They are female flowers
Zabman
I could be wrong, but I think the picture on the tropica site shows both male & female flowers!
alanmin4304
Both female--large ovaries and no stamens. I thought I had some pics but I can't find them.
