Guest
Hi guys, I want to have different coloured fighters. I've bred my 2 a few times and they've all turned out the same colour (I knew they would but I didn't think I'd mind  ). I was just wondering what colour types of fighters you can breed together that give you a real interesting mix of colours (not all the same)? I see pictures of peoples fighter and they have all different types of colours and but don't usually show the parents so I can copy what type they have   8)
Guest
Any ideas?????
Aaron-Betta
just try different pairs. Most petshop fighters come from a mixed background anyways, or look through some of your F1's from your original pair and pair up the ones that are total opposite of each other, that should give you the variety that you want. Or, try marbled fighers, love 'em or hate 'em fish, I've never seen two that look the same.
Adrienne
if you want to have a change of colour use either a marbled or cambodian fighter. you'll get some with cambodian colouring and some not and if you are lucky a mixture of colouring. The biggest colour variation I ever got was when I crossed a 'white' male with a red black and blue female.
Guest
All of my F1s are red ones that have CT in them. I'll see if I can find a cambodian female (lfs don't have many good fighters any more ) and a marbled male but I doubt I'll find one as I've never seen one. Aaron-Betta
marbles are pretty hard to come by because of the little market for them. You either like them or you dont. I have found with cambodian fighters, it is a pretty dominent gene, and hard to get rid of once you start line breeding. Try and set yourself an achievable goal and strive to get it through selective breeding.
Guest
I was going to try and get good CTs (I have one from my first spawn thats really good) but when they were all red I wanted a different colour  . So I thought I'd get 2 diffferent colour fighters and breed them and see what happens . What do you think I should do?
Aaron-Betta
If you are wanting good crowntails, you won't get them on the first attempt. You would need to selectively breed the good ones together.
Guest
Yeah I know. Do you think I could add a new coloured female to the really good one and then try to get good coloured CTs?
Guest
I might just breed my F1s together and try and get good CTs. How many spawns does it take to get good CTs? They're atleast 50% CT now (I don't know how much CT is in the mum). Is the one with the most crowning have the most CT genes in it? So the next spawn should be 75% CT then the next be pretty much perfect CTs or what? I think my best F1 is more than half CT though????? I'm a bit confused
Guest
just another thought, would getting a full CT female make getting good CT fighters faster?
Aaron-Betta
Full CT Female, plus Full CT Male would equal all CT babies of varying quality.
Guest
So maybe I should just buy a CT male and female. I wish someone down here bred them because I'd have to get them shipped. When I sell all my baby fighters (except a few  ) I'll see what I can find.
Guest
Ok so what will happen if I breed my new 100% CT male with one of my 50% CT (maybe more) female? But that will be in along time as I'm having trouble with my tanks and am limited on space
Aaron-Betta
Possibly something like this: (at an educated guess, depends on what genes the parents parents carried) 25% pretty good crowns 50% not so good crowns 25% not crowns You probably will have to cull a lot of them (instead of trying to grow all the rubbish ones), it is often better to just concentrate on the good ones so that they will be your future breeders to improve your percentage of good fry per spawn. (keep breeding the good looking ones together) Good things take time though, Just gotta be patient. 8)
