Virgil
All new at this, have started stocking the tank with some Neon Tetra's, am happy to leave them alone for a few weeks while the tank cycles. Just wondering what the best fish to add next, and in general the best ones to have in the tank alongside them Its a 120 litre tank. Cheers
Ant N
The best fish is the one(s) YOU like best, as long as your tank is big enough to house them! Glow lights will school with neons ,adding a bit more colour, Pearl gouramis are gentle and a nice feature in med. size tank. Visit LFS and see what is there. Some people like a large mass of the same type of fish with one or two larger feature fish and a couple of bottom cleaners, others seem to want at least one of everything!! New tank... the choice is all yours, remember different species can require different water conditions and filtration rates.
firenzenz
You have heaps of choices- other tetras, rasboras , danios and other schooling fish. Rainbows are good, a few loaches or cory's to choose from. Algae eater like bristle noses, and small cichlids like apistos' or rams Add a few more in ten day -2 weeks and some more after a similar time frame. This isn't the best tool but will give some options- have fun and let us know the outcome http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibil ... Caryl
Neons aren't too good to cycle with as they die easily these days  Hope they survive the cycle. Any smaller schooling fish will go well with them. Try to get a lot of one species rather than a few of lots of species.
Virgil
Cheers, i started with 6 and very quickly half died (within a day or so) But the remaining ones seem hardy. Was going to top their numbers back up today, another 3 or 4. Yeah thought id add some new species in the nest week or so..

Guest
A school of 15 or so neons with 8 or so glowlights looks good swimming around the tank and the bigger the school of fish the more they come out. Also platys are a really hardy colourful fish (sunset platys are the best) that are always out the front and they breed really easily if you decide to breed them. A few corys for the bottom and a BN or 2 to keep the tank clean. What type of fish have you seen that you like? do you want lots of schools of little fish or big fish or just a mix? Do you want them to be colourful or to have personality? I had neons in my first tank and they lasted a year before any died
JK
The best things about neons for cycling is that they are so cheap. The problem is they can die randomly and this may be for a reason other than your tank not cycling etc Danios are good and pretty dam hardy. Rainbows are awesome but a bit more pricey. I'd also consider some bottom feeders. Corys are pretty good and a wide variety available. Bristlenose are also very cool! Luke*
I don't find this boring: http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/I ... 00/282.jpg (cardinal tetras and albino neons - tho not a fan of albinos you get the idea)

Virgil
Welcome to site btw mate 8) Chur 8) Im still deciding on the fish i like, i guess for now it might help to know what fish i shouldnt add to the tank..ie ones that are likely to devour neons and other fish that size. I thought a mix of small and medium sized fish would look good.

Virgil
if you do and the fighter is red don't feed bloodworms as the neons will bite the fighter's fins The fighters do look like great fish, but wont they simply eat the little ones like neons, danios etc? Guest
I'd have a planted tank with heaps of caves and some dwarf cichlids (blue rams, gold rams and maybe a pair kribs) a mixed school neons and glowlight, a few corys, a pair of BN, a few sunset platys and what ever else you find that you like. Also fighters won't eat the neons as they don't get big EDIT: I've got my male fighter with my baby platys and some of the are only about 8mms long at the most
Luke*
mmm ... be careful.. fighters can easily consume large mosquito larvae.. but they won't eat a whole neon no.. tho did i have an agro female fighter once that attacked, killed, and ate neons
Simian
A couple of Juliei cory's & small bristle nose, as cleaners on the bottom And a couple of dwarf Gourami to take up the top section. Oh and more Neons.

His biggest baby who's a male flares up and puffs his gills out at nearly everything except the small 8mm babys. He'd just sit there watching them and chase anything else away A couple of Juliei cory's. juliei's and panda corys are really cool corys but they're expensive. JK
juliei corys are what i've got. Had always had just bronze or green in the past but saw the juliei and just had to have a few
Guest
I had 3 pandas and 2 of them died by 4 months so I got 3 more in the end (after about buying about 10 of them at $16 each) I just got some bronze and they lasted but I'll get more pandas one day and breed them if I have a spare tank. The first 3 lots I got were a bad lot (so the lfs owner said  )and I still have one that I've had about 8 months and he still is one of my favourite fish
dwalk
Bit bloody boring! Like the look of the Clown Loaches and Rams.. Clown Loaches are a cool fish, Unfortunately your 120L tank is way too small, as clown loaches grow to a really large size. Ram's are very cool too, but can be sensitive to water conditions, so make sure your tank is cycled and has stable water parameters B4 you add any
Virgil
Cheers Picked up some more fish tonight, 3 more neons (though 1 was dead before i got it home!) and 3 tiger barbs..hope they get along Also grabbed a few plants..
