Guest
Hi guys, My BNs haven't bred yet and I was wondering if I should move them into a bare bottom tank with my baby fighters or leave them in my semi planted tank with gravel and all that that has baby fighters, corys, baby platys (when I say baby I mean 2-3cms). Also I'm thinking of getting an ornament an Animates special what would be a good one to use? Like is a tube like one better than one with small entrance and a big inside area or stuff like that. Adrienne
I don't know which tank is best but I do know that my young fighters have been killing off my baby bn's.
Guest
Really? I was thinking about taking the baby BNs out of the tank and raise them in my breeder trap (it's a really big one) so I think I better if they will kill them off.
whetu
My BNs seem to like squeezing into flat, tight-fitting spaces. In fact their favourite place is under a piece of wood. My male digs out the gravel to make a hollow, then squeezes in there and peeps out. There are plants & stuff around the entrance, too, so I think that makes him feel a bit more cosy. I think the shape of the fish is a bit of a clue. Look at your BN front on - they're kind of wide and flat. [if I ever hear my fish saying that about me there will be trouble! ] Now imagine a space just big enough for them to fit in, and that will probably be about right. I have also heard they like to only have a single entrance/exit so they can guard it. Disclaimer: My BNs have not bred so I'm just watching the behaviour of my bachelor male. A BN in love may like something more than a bachelor pad!
firefish
for the cave - I use a coconut shell. i've heard it needs to be a cave that has one entrance . I'd just leave them to them selves once you get a good cave for them and wait for them to breed, cos once they start breeding, you'll soon have way too many! TM
I would give them a few options, say clay pot, coconut shell and maybe tiles.
enzoom1
Try this breeding cave. http://thefishcave.com.au/caves_area/diy_caves.html I made one (without the glass bottom) and they were breeding within weeks.
