Guest
Me and mum have decided to either breed corys, platys, BNs or guppys. I'm thinking I'll breed guppies (because they're the easiest to breed and grow faster than platys) until my female BN is big enough then breed BNs. Ok, let me add you to the list of people that breed guppies and the people that breed bristlenoses...Now, where did I leave the list... Ah, here it is. Guest
Yeah I know everyonne breeds them  but I suppose they're easy and are interesting to watch grow (mainly the BNs)
Slightly Blue Dalmation
get a nice strain going and then you wont be just another guppy person, as lots just put them in a tank and let them go. a nice mostly pure strain is a bit more special
Ant N
White Cloud Mountain Minnows . Breed in cold or warm water, don't eat their fry (much), large pH range, interesting spawning, can even spawn with frogs in the frog tank (about 5lt of shallow water!) easy to sell/pass on young, almost perfect really IMO
Guest
I think I'll try the guppys. I was just wondering if guppys and platys can be kept in the same tank as platys as I don't want to get rid of my blue and my sunset platys.
Dixon1990
Of course they can
Guest
I just wasn't sure if they could cross breed.
Dixon1990
Some people say they can, But I say they cant, Ive had 3platy,2guppie and about 6 leopardfish males together for about a month or 2. No hybrids(that i can see) and the Leopardfish are trying to breed with everytihng
vindy500
haha a pluppy would be cool (but not gonna happen)
Spink
Hey Cam, I didn't intend on breeding guppies, but they did it all by themselves, and I really enjoyed it for the first little while. The one thing I found REALLY cool was actually being able to watch my female birth her fry - even my teenage kids all stopped for a while to sit quietly by the tank and watch! If you want something easy and something that might be fun for your mum too, then give the guppies a go. I'm trying to breed some egg layers, but I'm not doing so good! Livebearers are so much easier for me! :bounce:
Guest
Yeah I'm 99% sure that I'll be breeding guppys but after seeing my auntys baby BN I'm now considering getting an adult female to breed with my male. What egg layers are/did you try breeding?
Spink
I have CPDS's (Celestial Pearl Danios) which I hoped might breed, but I don't think I have any females, although every time I look at them I'm sure I see one! I also purchased some female fighters from ADodge (pics posted on another thread) and put them in with my Male, but all they did is get choca with eggs and beat the living daylights out of him!!!! I gave up and put the girls back in the community tank to fight amongst themselves. Foxglove here on the forum has been successful with breeding Kribs and Brichardi cichlids (which has tempted me in to another tank to attempt my own breeding later on  ), have you considered either of these? The BN's look like a goer for later when you have the right sized male and female - Good Luck!
Guest
I've never tried kribs or Brichardi but was once thinking about breeding kribs. I've got a good sized male BN but may have to buy a female. I'm sure eventually you'll get you fightes to spawn (mine took 3 gos before it worked)
