fishyishy
Firstly i am new to marine and just starting to set up a marine tank. I was wondering could you use a portable haogen floodlight and put a 70watt halide light bulb into it??? as the flood light takes a 118mm bulb and so is the 70watt halide bulb. Does anyone know if this will work?
HaNs
I dont think halogen ballasts can provide the startup voltage needed for MH's You can get MH ballasts and fittings for around $170+ new.

Zev
The halogens don't have a ballast, so don't even try it, it will end in exploding glass and tears. What size tank are we talking about, and what colour temperature metal halide lamp?

Yes but it can get very pricey very quickly (like most stuff to do with marine  )
