Thermostat on Stove Element Broken?

Recommended Posts

Slightly odd topic, but I figured someone here might know.

The element I use all the time on my stove is no longer capable of doing anything cooler than Hot as Hell no matter what the dial is set to. Tis a plain ol' electric stove.

Is it something quick and cheap or something more involved?

Thanks

One of mine went like that, and then bang.If you arehandy its not so bad.Elements are expencive. Its the sparky that cost the most. Its quick work, but they charge a call out fee.Ring around as some are cheaper than others.good luck

Get qualified sparky to look at it, Yellow Pages, if you don't know any. High amp appliance is no place to to go poking around in unless you know what you are doing. Same thing happened to an old stove of ours, cost me new thermostat/switch and box of beer, which I got to share!LOL Sparky is a mate.

sounds like u ned a new simmerstat

Correct Spoon, the elements on your stove are controlled by switching on and off at variable rates not by temperature, they are called simmerstats.

Call a registered electrician. call out rates should be between $50-60 per hr. tell him your make and model of the stove when you make the call, suggest it may be the simmerstat and that way he wont make 2 trips.

Oh and give the stove a clean before he comes, there is nothing worse than fighting through dishes and old grease to fix a stove, he will appreciate it and the job will go faster.
