chimera
Finally taken the plunge and upgrading my skimmer to a Deltec AP902. So, that means my Deltec TS1060 in-sump skimmer is up for sale. For anyone interested see here... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/deltec ... 10294.html Next step is plumbing up the overflow so the skimmer can be gravity fed. Will be a T plumbing to water goes to the skimmer and refugium. The refugium output will go straight into the sump which will feed the display via the return pump. The refugium will receive a substantially lower flow rate and can also be "tapped off" separate to the main system to act as a QT tank. The existing location in the sump where the in-sump skimmer sits will now hold the zeovit reactor and fluidised rowaphos reactor. Im also adding another 'sump' to the system - it's mainly to hold the new skimmer and calcium reactor (incase anything leaks, it stays in the main system) Oh, and the chiller will also be gravity fed from a second 'T' plumbing. Well thats the plan anyway, interesting to see how it comes out
Brianemone
sounds like fun chimera. did you notice an increase in water clarity when you stared the zeo??
Pies
did you notice an increase in water clarity when you stared the zeo?? Suphew used some TUNZE zeolite rock in his tank. Overnight water clarity improvement. So the zeolite rock makes a big difference to water clarity regardless as to the presence of ZEOvit. An obsersvation. suphew
Yep have to agree, my tank has never looked better. lol But truthfully I was very impressed, I considered my water clarity was pretty good till I added the tunze zeolite. I had to remove it a while back, it only took a day or two for the water to go back to what it was, then turned it back on, clear as the next day. Reef, do you have any idea how long it lasts or how often it needs to be replaced??
reef
do you have any idea how long it lasts or how often it needs to be replaced They say 6-8 weeks, it really depends on your tank load. You have to becareful as too much and you will strip out too much which will cause problem. its a bit like carbon. Just add it slowly over a few days. You could add a bactaria source which will help with high tank bioloads.

I think that is what produces the increase in clarity. I've just added UV to boost good bacteria levels, so should be interesting to see what happens to nitrates over the next few months. Skimmer immediately produced much more skimmate too. UV is a much underated form of nutrient export I think. Plus you get the side-effect of parasite control as well, if that's a problem in your tank. Layton
Brianemone
thats part of the reason i asked layton, im still considering all my options. can you start a thread to track the UV process?
Nickle Pickle
I'm new to this forum, and its taken the whole afternoon and evening to read this whole thread . All i can say is that you have a mint set up there

Brianemone
well it was great to see the tank in person. i was very surprised at the actual size of the sump room. the tank looks like its starting to mature very well, the gsp are a nice little plauge but a pretty plauge non the less. the acros are looking really good and im sure they will fill the tank nicely once they pack on the beef. great tank, i definatly need a seaswirl after seeing your one in action. (i think all our wifes need to start a support group, Reefers wife's inc)

chimera
i was very surprised at the actual size of the sump room it's not the size that counts, its what you do with it. did ya wife never tell ya that? thanks for dropping off the fluidised reactor. will rig that up once the new skimmer goes in

rossco
Thanks Brian. James - make sure its one of the 'drop it in the tank and forget it' variety. I'm still trying to get leathers to grow properly....
chimera
Not too much white xenia to frag, grows pretty slow! Got bored tonight, took a couple of pic's with the blue actinic's on (will get some day shots up soon too) Front right side, small cluster of various acro's. i screwed up though and put a staghorn frag at the front, it grows so damn quick gonna have to keep fragging it!... Took this shot from side on, looks quite arty
chimera
I finally got around to upgrading from the in-sump Deltec TS1060 (which I still think is an awesome skimmer) to an even better and bigger (and more expensive!) beast. Here are some shots of the plumbing and new Deltec AP902 which is already working brilliantly. Admitedly I did have a couple of blonde moments yesterday (brain saturated in beer from new years I think) first I turned the "water out" ball valve that empties water for a water change - then got distracted by the wife, came back a couple of minutes later to hear the return pump running dry Luckily had some NSW sitting there but that didnt quite fill the sump up enough. So, I turned on the freshwater topup perastaltic pump (only needed about 10 litres which shouldnt effect salinity that much) ... another distraction and I forgot about it until this morning :-? Interestingly the salinity is still at 1.025... bizzare. Anyway here are the shots. First, I T'd off the 40mm overflow drain pipe on a 45 degree angle then ran piping horizontally into the sump room. The pipe running to the back then 90 to the left goes to the refugium. Essentially this is water the skimmer doesnt need... Then a 90 degree down and another 90 across to the skimmer. It is then reduced to 25mm and into a 25mm ball valve. Then a 90 into the skimmer itself. You can see the 50mm skimmer outlet pipe running horizontally across in the background. This drops straight into the sump... And here is the skimmer in action. Still need to sit it in a plastic tank (incase it leaks) The BOC CO2 bottle is temporary until I sort out where that is going as well... I estimate about 2/3's of the water down goes to the skimmer and the other 1/3 goes through the refugium.
Brianemone
looks like a nice tidy job is your wife convinced that the skimmer is the last peice of equiptment that you need for a while?
chimera
is your wife convinced that the skimmer is the last peice of equiptment that you need for a while? now why would i give her that idea? strangely SHE is the one who was saying a bigger tank would be nice!!! i almost fell off my chair when she said that. nice understanding wife, keep taking your husband-needs-bigger-tank medicine Next job is to order those 4ft reflectors off Dr Evil... someone must be wanting to organise it surely! Then load the main tank up with acro frags. So, anyone with nice acro's for sale cheap gimme a holla
