Lucas
I'm only new to tropical fish, but if anyone hasn't got one of these fish and has beard algae, you need one!! I just finished cycling my tank and battled beard algae and every other form of green scum and scourge for a month. Then I popped in one tiny Siamese Algae Eater and BAM the algae is gone! He gutsed down the beard algae on the first day I put him in, then turned his attention to the rest on the plants and wood. When I heard they eat the beard algae, I thought it might be the last thing they eat, since they are one of few that like it. I shall call him 'BAM' (pronounced loudly)

tinytawnykitten
... BAM the algae is gone! ... I shall call him 'BAM' (pronounced loudly) I have to add as an aside that none of those Bam products work.
Lucas
haha.. yes I've heard mixed reports about the cleaning product, but the jury's in regarding SAE usefulness IMO.
tHEcONCH
Just be aware that they eat less algae as they become bigger, so it won't solve the problem permanently.
mitzy
I thought with the combitnation of flourish excell and a couple of goldens should fix my problem fingers crossed. There's heaps of algae on a few of my rocks and my two are big(ish?) and they totally avoid it
jolliolli
thats interesting, i had 4 up until a couple of weeks ago but sold them. They were fairly large around 12cm or so and they still ate all the algae, also must have been eating the baby snail population as ive suddenly discovered a lot of baby snails since they were sold
Afrikan
Yeah they often do get lazy when they get to a large size and they also get lazy if you feed them oh tooooo well  Love the name BAM btw  Just a note on the BAM cleaning products, we have found them excellents here for bathroom use.. 8)
Naz_Nomad
I would also suggest trying otocinclus and amaerican-Flag fish which are also excellent algae eaters. But for beard algae, it has to be the Self Addressed Envelope every time!
Lucas
for beard algae, it has to be the Self Addressed Envelope every time! nice one 8) I've heard the Chinese Algae Eater gets lazy, but thought the SAE might be an exception. Oh well. If he gets four times the size and eats quarter as much, that should still keep the algae problem fairly much under control! Also just got a couple of Pearl Gouramis, a Dwarf Gourami and a Khuli Loach. One big happy family... until breeding time
wayneh
Black mollies do a great job on hair algae, always have some in my tanks for this, never had any SAE's, never needed them... Cheers Wayne
