fins
This stuff is really ugly and is starting to annoy me, its in my spray bar and external power filter pipes. I used to just be able to wash it out with a hose but i think it has now evolved and adapted. anyone got any ideas?
tamboe2001
tried pipe cleaners yet? its a tedious job but it has to be done from time to time
chimera
try fixing the cause of the problem rather than the outcome of the problem. generally speaking, brown algae tends to indicate lack of lighting (whereas green indicates too much lighting)
fins
Well i cant exactly get a light for my pipes.
Ira
Just get some pipe cleaners. I bought a set of 3-4 different ones at a fish store, it's good.
chimera
so get black pipes then - neither brown nor green algae will grow! 19mm flexible irrigation piping from bunnings is BRILLIANT stuff and fits almost everything! they have attachments of all sorts too which i made my closed-loop with in about 1 hour. its all black piping so is very well hidden from view in the tank. you could even make your own spray bar. still beats me why eheim went green... Alan_au
Regardless what colour the algae is, it is still absorbing nitrates, and isn't that what we are trying to get out of our aquariums???? More plants = less nitrates???? and algae are plants!! Alan
Midas
chimera, how much does that black 19mm pipe cost $/m? How flexible is it? is it similar to the normal (semi rigid) 13mm garden irrigation tube that is quite common at garden centres etc?
