wayneh
Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with either of these filters. I have a new 400L tank and want to put 2 filters on it, but I don't want to spend too much if I can help it. The first is listed as "FAUNTY External Filters are one of the best sold on the European market." http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =145780363 the other option is listed as "ALEAS External Filters are one of the best sold on the European market." http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =145710393 Is one better than the other (excluding the difference in flow rates of course) or are they both as bad as each other... The price is right, but is the performance worth it. These will go on a planted aquarium eventually housing about 6 discus. Your thoughts much appreciated. Cheers Wayne
dimebag
to be honest ive never heard of either of them. personally id go for 2 aqua one cf1200 mate, usually round $130ish on tm, easy to source parts for, and reliable.
fishandchips
They are just knock off's, of other brands. I would not take any notice of the "best in Europe" thing as if you search them on google you come up with nothing. They are like the Jeabo filters, I have one that is a knock off of an Ehiem (sp) works a charm but doesn't cost the earth. Might break futher down the line but that is why I have a back up on hand always. I went for a cheap one that has push to prime, I got sick of the AquaOnes and having to nearly spill half the tank to get it going
henward
i have a faunty mtor is strong and poewrful the finish is poor the plastic is not high strength as aqua ones and fluvals but, its 100 bux, value for money, hey, you cant go wrong its currently filtering my pig nose puffer tank. and its sufficient aleas and faunty is the same, just colour different, the generic parts in them are the same. its like some canned pine apple is also made by dole, just budget relabels them. personaly, i would get either cos they work fine, just when you are looking at more expensive fish, i guess youw ant more peace of mind i do anwyays, when fish get to 300 above you need to be sure
wayneh
i have a faunty mtor is strong and poewrful the finish is poor the plastic is not high strength as aqua ones and fluvals but, its 100 bux, value for money, hey, you cant go wrong its currently filtering my pig nose puffer tank. and its sufficient How well do the internal media baskets fit in the casing, is there a good flow through the media, or does the majority of the water flow around the baskets? Just asking as someone suggested these cheaper filters were not well built... I like them because of the price as you say, $100 you can throw it away if it breaks down after a reasonable time, new impellor for my friends fluval cost him $54 recently... I want to put 2 of the 1000/1200 units on my new 1200x610x560 (400L) tank, overkill probably, but with 2 there is always a backup, and I can clean them alternately. Cheers. henward
yeah, i made that somment that baskets and stuff dont fit properly and with the faunty this is CERTAINLY the case its sufficient for what i use it for, only one fish, though the fish is messy its ok the sheer amount of water it moves is good, so i guess the high volume of the 1200 which is the one i have is sufficient. but the baskets dont fit right at all, you have to really wiggle the sh*t out of it the rubber orings in the baskets to seal gaskets are not good either, so you have to be careful. generally the quality is not that good, but sufficient for per say a community tank if you have two wiht smaller fish but i would never trust it for my massive fishes and monsters.... the aqua ones fit perfectly fluvals even better the fluvals are really good value fi you ge ta second hand one and repair it they generally last for ever aqua ones are the next best thing
AMAZONIAN
They are just another Chinese made external filter. If you are genuine and really interested, PM me and I will give you the address of the manufacturer and you can deal with them direct. henward
in my EXPERIENCE not opinion the build just isnt as good the baskets are hard to fit you fiddle for minutes trying to just stack them. the handles dont tuck properly on the side. the rubber rings around the pipes in the baskets dont fit snug and stuff etc i just think aqua one out of all of them fit the best i think but i would go with fluval eheim i just got myslf a brand new fluval 404 MASSIVE POWER, brand new with media for $170 that can filter up to 500 litres i think its brilliant! there are always good deals just look for them on trademe and on this site:d
