jayci
Would it be wrong to use tea bags or tea leaves to lower ph and add tannins to the water. Kind of like a peat substite. Should they be new or used tea bags?
Cheesejawa
insted of just throwing out water from waterchanges you could drink it. I dont think it would work anyway, just make your water tea flavoured but I might be wrong.
Ianab
The idea is OK, teabags just contain chopped up leaves off a tea bush. But I think real peat is probably cheaper, and wont get your fish hooked on the caffiene in the tea. Wonder how they would react if they didn't get their morning tea or coffee fix? alanmin4304
I have used tea bags in the past successfully to breed killis and tetras.
jayci
I have used tea bags in the past successfully to breed killis and tetras Interesting. Were they used or new? how many teabags?
Slightly Blue Dalmation
not so keen on driftwood and or peat? the combination worked a treat for all my tanks
jayci
Just an idea. Thought I would put it out there, to see if it had been done or if I was just barking mad. I would imagine that tea bags would be clean and tidy, not messing up the tank.
cichlid7
i was told that you put the tea bag in a cup of boiling water then you put the tea bag in the tank and then finish making your cup of tea.
alanmin4304
I just poured boiling water over a teabag and tipped the tea into the tank. You can do the same thing with dried oak leaves but it takes more leaves. You dry the leaves after they have fallen from the tree in autumn. I will be watching Hagly Park for readers. Faran
Putting peat in an old stocking is easy and tidy, it's my preferred method at least.
AMAZONIAN
Hi All. Did it matter which blend of Tea you used? I mean it's only for the fishes benefit so you dont want them getting too accustomed to the finest Darjeeling varieties do you? :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
jayci
What is the dose? eg 1cup of tea to 25ltrs?
alanmin4304
Like many things in the fish game (peat, meth blue. mal green, pot permangenate) I used to just add it until you get the depth of colour you want. Seriously, dried oak leaves are good too. The leaves lose a lot of nutrients back to the tree before they fall off so the fallen leaves will be different to vigorously growing ones. I have also used dried bark from the oak tree, and brown water from streams on the West Coast S.I. after rain which has washed through a lot of mulm to get to the stream. AMAZONIAN
Hi All Definitely agree with alanmin on the WEST COAST WATER. I get a supply from the Charming Creek stream every time I go down there.
