Fmxmatt
Have just had a nosey in the tank with the torch to find 1 of my shrimp standing ontop of my nanostream (currently covered with a media bag to prevent anemone soup). On closer inspection, it was releasing its fry. The shrimp was a little camera shy, not surprising since it was giving birth. Shortly after I started taking pics/video, it moved to a position where I couldn't get a good shot, so I've left it alone. Thought people might be interested in a pic and video (once its uploaded)
reef
They breed all the time, normally young are released at night just after the lights go off. My fish love it,
Fmxmatt
Yeah, mine do it all the time too, this is the first time i've actually seen them doing it though, rather than just looking in the tank and seeing all the little babies floating around. All my fish are asleep and haven't realized. How long will the babies last until they die off/are skimmed out?
Fmxmatt
Heres the video. First time i've tried to post a video so not sure if it'll work
wasp
Very good Matt. I have never yet seen this event photographed or filmed. If not skimmed the fry will last till next day when they will get eaten. But it is surprising how fast they get skimmed.

alanmin4304
Would it be possible to raise the young?
reef
No they cant be raised, you need a special set up for them. However they are raised by experts however overseas.
Fmxmatt
So the video is working then? Doesn't seem to work when I click on it. Its a shame the shrimp moved. When I found it, it was sitting right ontop of the powerhead and I watched it do the same thing for a couple of mins before I realised what it was doing and raced to get the camera.
