Faran
If you have an airstone running in the bathtub for the daphnia it should prevent a portion of the top from freezing over unless it gets REALLY cold.

VinsonMassif
How far away from the house is the tub? Could you just get a long air hose and keep the air pump inside?
DantezGirl
thats an idea it isnt to far but far enough to use a extension cord probably 2-3 meters away
ryanjury
Just run the airline outside not the pump..

alanmin4304
A plastic or glass cover would be better---would let light through and grow algae for the daphnia.
DantezGirl
hmm what would let more light in glass or plastic? ive got a huge window i can take apart and use the glass
Caryl
Glass would be good and trap warmth. Plastic, depending on thickness, will develop a sag in the middle.
