vindy500
if i wanted a bristlenose in my breeding tank to keep it nice and clean could i have one? or would it eat eggs/fry?
danilada
nope it shouldn't do, I have them with my breeding guppys and E.yellows. What are you breeding? Knowing birstles, they will breed also
tHEcONCH
They should be fine (and so are a lot of other smaller Plecs for that matter). They are quite helpful, IMO.
vindy500
cherry barbs atm, well gonna give it a go, im pretty sure the bn wont breed, unless they are a-sexual:)
ryanjury
Bristlenoses will eat cherrybarb egg's with my egg layers I noticed very small rates of fry or even none when bristlenoses are present as they eat all the egg's. The reason others are having success with yellows guppies etc is because these fish dont lay eggs well the yellow's do but they are released when they can swim and the bristlenoses cant catch them. Best to add bristlenoses once the fry are free swimming.

BNs are handy when dealing with parents that care for eggs and young such as cichlids but definitely not suitable for egg scatterers/broadcasters. ryanjury
Even fish that guard there eggs can have them disappear overnight by a bristlenose or even during the day if they're small and the bristlenose big and they just cruise on it and eat them while the little fish are trying to smash them.. vindy500
its a small bn (one i got off you ryan)
ryanjury
I wouldn't do it, in a breeding tank there is really no need just stick the fish in let them spawn pull them out in a few weeks you can add a bristlenose once they're free swimming
Faran
Snails are another option, but like BNs they can eat eggs and even wrigglers if you're not careful.
