ryanjury
If there are bubbles there is a leak somewhere which is letting air in which airlocks the pump.. First you have to determine where the air leak is happening check all your pipes make sure they have no holes or if any joins are sweet, then go for all the unions etc undo them and push the pipe in more making sure its in there really good, open the filter and check any seals etc are in place and put it all together hopefully that fixes it otherwise you may have to order new seals or replace parts.. mumzy50
I might not have together in order, and how far do you fill canister up theres no mark. I pulled it apart to clean .I put white pad and bag of charcol in one tray then noodles in other in last tray white pad and green pad then top tray. How do you bleed the pipe. this came with turtles i brought. Iwas told to put water in pipes. hetold me it would take a few trys.Ithought peice of cake, gee was i wrong. ryanjury
Oic cant you start it at all? Order of stuff doesn't really matter, pays to stick the noodles in the middle and the coarsest media in first the finest last that way most of the crap gets picked up in the coarsest stuff and not your noodles and that.. Easiest way I find of getting my filters going is to hook it all up with the intake in the water have the fitler in place and empty, suck on the outlet pipe to get a syphon going through the filter, wait until the filter fills up with water and comes out through the outlet pipe shake it around a bit to make sure all the airs out of it then turn the taps off. Stick your outlet into the tank open the taps and plug it in, if it still doesn't start try and turn the filter on its side a little it can move the air around and get it going and hopefully blow all the air out.. Good luck!

ryanjury
If the filter is empty you shouldn't do it takes ages for the water to fill up the filter and come out the pipe..

Cricketman
that dial is a air bleed, you open it up and pull it to get teh air that is causing your block out, but be sure that you can close it again real fast otherwise it may flow out and get you some more.... lol welcome to teh wonderful world of fishkeeping where you put your body, sanity and wallet on the line, lol

VinsonMassif
WILL I GOT GUNKED very gross. that did not work could .hear rattling .noise. One of my canisters (at tank level) stops every time I do water changes and the outlet is above the water level. I just squirt the hose up the intake and it kick starts it. As for the rattle, pull the impeller out and check to see if the shaft is not broken. I replaced mine, and there is no more rattle. On getting gunked: I have to say that sucking on a filter pipe is a terrible idea IMO. Your canister filter is a huge bacteria colony, full of all the fish poop, decaying food, possibly fungus as well. Terrible idea.
mumzy50
I hate it, I am haveing insane moment. All day i have fiddle with it. I shove hose up rear end of filter hose, pulled it off under water. It went all of 5mi could see air in hose kicked it tilted it this way and that way. cheaked propilar fine. I think rattling is air. IVE given up going back to useing hose to siphon out turtles for now. had a noth thanks for ideas MUST BE A STINK BRAND
tHEcONCH
If all else fails, fill up the bath with water, take the top off the filter, and slowly / gently submerse the whole thing. Put the top back on (underwater), carefully lift it out, dry it off, and refit it (without tipping it over). Plug it in.
ryanjury
Sucking on it when its empty means you wont get any crap in your mouth I do it all the time if you sit there sucking all day you will drink it obviously.. If there is no water to wash the gunk out then you wont get any all it needs is a small suck to start the syphon. Have you tried with the filter below your tank? Maybe that is the problem, if your syphoning through the filter it will fill up the filter and right through where the pump operates so it should start unless your filter has a leak and air is getting in.. I have had no problems with my 819 apart from the quality of the taps but thats probably me being unco and breaking them off.
