bedazzled
I noticed last night that my Honey gourami wa being a bit reclusive and this morning she was just sitting at the bottom in amoungst the plants, I have observed her and she didn't bother with food dropped right near her. When she tries to swin she is wonky, her tail goes up, her head goes down and she swerves like a drunk person. Any ideas on what is wrong, is it fixable or is she on her way out? tHEcONCH
Have you tested your water? That is the first place to start, or if you don't have test kits just do a big (50%+) water change anyway. If you can post up a picture we may be able to tell more, but from what you've described it sounds as if she is already too far gone for any treatment to be effective. bedazzled
I did a 40% ish water change yesterday when I first noticed she was not looking well, I have her in a bowl at the moment as I have no other tank I can put her in and if what she has is contagious I didn't want my other fish getting it. I only have PH test kit and that is fine, water looks clear and dosen't smell funny and all other fish are bright and perky Apart from acting strangely she looks healthy I thought I will try and get a pic for you if I can figure out how to post pics to here. bedazzled
Here is a pic of "Melone" my sick Honey Gourami, she has actually started swimming round a bit since I put got her out of the tank and put her in a bowl and is not as wonky as she was Not a great pic as I have put a yellow fish in a green bowl lol
tHEcONCH
That is good news - there is nothing obviously wrong judging by the pic - put here back in the main tank and see if she can keep herself upright and swim. It may be that the water change did the trick.
bedazzled
I will try and get some food in to her and put her back in a few hours if she looks ok, thankfully it is warm here so the water temp is about the same as the tank with a heater. Thanks for your advice
Caper
Just a thought, I don't know how big the bowl is and you don't have ammonia test kit, so if you keep the fishy in there for hours I would maybe do a small water change. I am not sure but those who know more would tell you but I think in a small bowl for too long a time the ammonia might built up???? Scuba Sam
Hi Bedazzled, I am happy to loan you a test kit to test for nitrates, nitrite, ammonia if that would help. I can probably even find a spare tank if she doesn't recover quickly. P.M. me if you would like to pick up the kit - Kensington. Good luck with saving her. bedazzled
aww shucks, thanks for the offer Sam but I guess you have finished work by now :-? She was looking ok so I put her back in the tank and she has taken a turn for the worse again, by the time I got home from collecting the kids she was looking really dodgy and swimming wonky. I think it may be too late to save her and I am considering putting her out of her misery Very upsetting as she is one of a pair

Caper I only had her in there for an hour max and put her back in the tank, she is now back in the bowl again (fresh water) But if she perks up I will definately do a few small water changes if I have to keep her in there
bedazzled
Just an update on Melone I had her in the bowl until last night, she was looking a bit better but still not really herself, I had enough of doing the small water changes and making sure the cat didn't find her so I decided to put her back in the tank and if she lived she lived. weelllll, as soon as I put her back in she started swimming round like normal and I put some food in and she ate really well ( she hadn't been eating in the bowl) by this morning her colour was back to normal and she looks healthy as can be. So I have no idea what was wrong with her, suspect she may have just wanted a holiday
tHEcONCH
Good news Just keep up the water changes in the main tank to make sure any pathogen (if there was one) is flushed out
bedazzled
Sad News about my honey gourami She was fine for a few days then she got the same symptoms and sucked the kumara I tested the PH and the Ammonia and both were fine so I think maybe it was just an unexplained death
