imsweet
In my previous post i wrote about 3 girls having huge bellies. Well the other 2 have shrunk back to normal, but the biggest girl is still huge. She has been spending these last few days hiding down the far corner away from the others, no plant cover, not eating. I have my fingers crossed she's just preggers so have put her in a makeshift floating container along with a (bent backed)guppy for company. I know the pics are slightly blurry but you can get the idea on how big she is. I also noticed while trying to photograph her a very slight dark spot at the back that wasnt there when i 1st noticed them all.
Ira
Given the quality of the pics it's hard to tell. She's either going to drop fry soon, has bloat, or is going to explode. Are her scales poking out?
imsweet
No, i had a guppy that got dropsy but it happened alot faster than this. I also thought constipated? Still the same this morning. She's quite contented in the container so i'l leave her in there for a few days to see.
ryanjury
Have you tried feeding some peas to see if it frees things up, or try epsom salt either way should relieve constipation or internal swelling.. Or she is just really pregnant!
Caryl
Could be well and truly pregnant. Maybe,if you think she has been too fat too long, she has a stuck fry (breech or something). That is known to happen. One gets stuck and blocks the rest.
imsweet
hmm, 5 days at that size ............ i'm just not too sure as i've never had these before. Will they eat peas? Thought it was only the coldies that ate veges.
Scuba Sam
with that colour of fish the babies are often pale and hard to see in the gravid spot. Pregnant fish can definitely look that shape. Here's hoping you get some baby action today - try a water change in the tank too to bring on babies perhaps. Good luck, Sam
Guest
With my Platys I find they don't get a really dark spot like guppys. From the picture I can see a slightly dark spot so I think she is pregnant and from the size of her I'd say you'll have babies in the next 2-3 days at the most. Adrienne
She looks pregnant - I had one recently that looked like a marble and ..... she produced a whole 9 fry into the breeding trap. then a week later she produced the rest into the tank (not sure how that works though  )
Guest
Once I had a platy have 35 fry and she didn't even look fat so they don't always have as many fry as you think she'll have.
imsweet
It kinda looks like her belly is coming out of her butt now. Will keep an eye on her all night, I now have a spare tank to put her in.
Guest
In my opion if you have a spare tank or a breeder trap or breeder net I'd put her in tonight.
imsweet
I think she's popped the insides out. Are they like cats and dogs in a sense, that they need to be introduced into new foods slowly? Just a thought.
Adrienne
oooooh... don't know what that is :-?

imsweet
Well..... shes back in with the others today. She had passed something?? Dont know what tho. Maybe a worm?? This morning she looked better, she's eating again, wanting to get out of the container, fins still clamped a little but i figured i'll give her another shot. The male was hanging around her alot yesterday, perhaps that encouraged her?? Anyway, fingers crossed she'll come right as we go on holiday next week. curtur
could it be a tape worm of some description?
imsweet
Her belly is still slightly swollen, but looking normal as can be
imsweet
WELLLLLLLL........ I think she is preggers. She is still big in the belly but now has a distinct black part towards the exit. The bummer part is, we're going to OZ for 2 weeks tomorrow and probably wont see any babies. Theres heaps of java moss in the tank but also hungary (big) mouths. Oh well,, thems the breaks.
