heyandrea_
Ammonia at 0, Nitrite 2.0, Nitrate 5.0 .. what should I do now? Is this on track?? I'm a bit worried at the nitrite level... fish arent showing any signs of stress yet.
rollergirl
If you're worried about nitrite level a water change won't hurt
Ianab
A partial water change would do no harm, but if the fish are happy and the nitrite is coming down at the next test, then dont do anything. No more fish untill the ammonia AND nitrite both stay at zero. Cheers Ian
heyandrea_
Cheers! Two days ago I only did an ammonia test and it read 0.50, and today its down to zero, so it's risen and dropped pretty quickly.
heyandrea_
what's going on?? a week ago when i posted my tank it was cycling! Ammonia at 0, Nitrite 2.0, Nitrate 5.0. So I did a small water change, and the readings were the same. I've tested my tank today, as it's due for another water change, and the test results have baffled me!!! Ammonia risen to 0.50, and both nitrite and nitrate have dropped back to 0!! I dont use any chemicals or anything and haven't touched the filter media or anything.. so I'm a little confused!! tHEcONCH
The second kind of bacteria that converts Nitrite to Nitrate is MUCH slower growing than the one that converts Ammonia to Nitrite, so it is a little unusual - you may be overfeeding. In any event, just keep up the water changes.
Caper
heyandrea, at least that's one of the things we can usually fix just by water changes (parameters being off). Caper
