Cheesejawa
My java fern does not seem to be held to the driftwood that it is held on to by thread. Are rubberbands safe to use in aquariums or do they leech chemicals? How long does java fern take to attach?
michael.qian
few weeks to fully attach, I used white string and it worked fine, just the normal white sewing threads. Also tie it fairly tight, not so tight it cuts into the roots though.
supasi
Im not sure on rubber bands, but I attach my Anubias and java fern to rocks and wood using elastic thread. i find the best stuff is the stuff i use to hold fish bait on my longline hooks. Its about $2 or $3 for a roll and can be bought at most fishing supply shops(saltwater) http://www.tackletactics.co.nz/BaitElastic.html this is an example of the stuff I use(not the coloured one  ) HTH
VinsonMassif
I found that the finest fishing nylon is good, it is fine which is easy to use, and doesn't degrade. Plus it is nearly invisible.
David R
I've used countless rubber bands to attach java fern and never had any problems. By the time the rubber band breaks down and falls off its usually attached.
