evilknieval69
What size is your tank, what lighting do you have, how long are the lights on for each day, what plants do you have and what fertilisers do you dose? Answer those questions and we will be able to give you a reason why it is green, and how to fix it
jim r
I have had mega problems with green water in the past, I tried lots of things but the cure for me was a second filter which I removed after the water cleared.

Adrienne
is it in direct sunlight or receiving filtered light during the day. filtered light onto even the smallest amount of my tanks cause the water in them to turn gree. Naz_Nomad
Stick a UV filter in there, that'll clear it up. Green water is just free floating micro-algae. You can get rid of it by blacking out the tank for a few days and not feeding the fish in it or by the use of UV. I have tried the black-out method but it didn't work for me, but have a UV filter inside my main tank and have never had problems with green water. AMAZONIAN
Hi All. Well, water changes just don't cut it, I'm sorry. The new water you put back in the tank acts as a "tonic" and new food for the algae so it goes on and on. I am always advocating feeding your fry "GREEN WATER", well nows your chance to start breeding in ernest and utilise the green water. Unfortunately cutting off the light to the tank is also a bad move as the Algae will die and rot starting another problem for you. If the Green is that bad I suggest stripping the tank and disinfecting it with a very strong salt solution and then restart. Alternatively buy a UV sterilizer. Good Luck. carla
I am always advocating feeding your fry "GREEN WATER", well nows your chance to start breeding in ernest and utilise the green water. I feed the green water to my daphnias and then the daphnias to the fry UVs are amazing....clears the tank in a couple of days. Fish seem happier as well. I actually don't think the fish give a toss about it. And in fact I use it to keep my killi fry from fighting, as there seems always more males than females... If they cannot see each other its much quieter in the tank
