everyone knows i just bought a tank, it comes with a spa pool cartridge filter that goes into a trickle filter 'wet dry' . i know for marine this is important. but most canister filters which usually is ok for FW, doesnt have wet dry facility. everything is just in the water.

what advantage does this have? is it needed?

why have wet dry?

why have wet dry?

Because the wet/dry system trickles the water over the filter media you get the best mix of water/media/bacteria/oxygen and so therefore you get the best possible biological filtering action.

Normal submerged filtering works fine of course, but a wet/dry just takes things to the next level.

Cheers

Wet-dry filters allow more oxygen and thus more bacteria in the bio-filtration.

i don't know why you think they are important for Marine tanks though... Most marine tanks these days use efficient protein skimming and live rock for 'filtration'. Of course you can get away with Wet-dry's on FO tanks, but its still not a good idea

Out of interest, why isn't a wet/dry on a FO tank a good idea?
