wilson
lol nah it will be fine how is the whitespot going?
Fmxmatt
Bloody good actually. Popped home just before, and despite the tank being dirty as cuz I haven't been home to scrub algae all week, the whitespot is only just visible on the Tang! wilson
thats good should be all gorn by the time you do the moveing then
Fmxmatt
Righto its all done. Very very simple aquascape... well more like a pile of rocks and corals placed where they would fit at this stage. I like it to be honest, not sure if I like it more than the cove setup, or whether the change makes it good, but I do like it Tiny bit concerned that my brittlestar may be trapped. It was hidden in a large piece of rock which I've positioned in a way that it should be able to escape from. Guess I'll just have to keep an eye out? Few interesting moments during the move. First was when I was attempting to move the torch coral which the Clownfish had taken posession of. While I was trying to make the polyps retract, 1 of the clown fish made a suicide dive right out of the tank and nailed me right between the eyes. Scared the living sh*t out of me! Second was the blenny. God he's a character! He had hidden himself in a piece of rock. I noticed and started moving other rocks and was planning on leaving the rock with him in it inside the tank. Next thing I know, he's swimming around inside the tub which had the liverock in it. I didn't think he'd be stupid enough to hitch hike again, but he did it as the rock went back into the tank aswel! Now i've just noticed him hiding inside my UV sterilizer output (its off at the mo) So yeah, all good and only concern is the brittlestar being stuck. Oh and to those who read about the Blue Tang wiht the whitespot.... it was the only fish that I COULDNT catch in the tank even with all of the liverock removed! LOL
reef
Do you have a before and after photo, Love the UV sterilizer, those units are not going to do much for your tank, they are little toys, they are too small too weak, will never kill whitespot. When ever you buy something that is so cheap you need to question why?
Fmxmatt
Before shot And actually reef, I believe the UV sterilizer HAS infact made a difference to the whitespot
wilson
lol blenny is so cool i want him 8) the star should be ok there very good at getting in and out of holes tank looks great
Sapphire
Well i like it - especially in the tank shape you have - I think it has more of a central focal point (if that makes sense!). I like the cove as well though - I love watching fish etc diving in and out of caves! If our brittlestar is any indication I'm sure yours will be fine - I've seen ours get through gaps I never thought it would (and some I hadn't known existed!) Did the process go ok? reef
I believe the UV sterilizer HAS infact made a difference to the whitespot Placebo effect maybe. The cheaper units wont kill parsites unless you slow the water flow to about 1000 L/h The cheap UVs are good for freshwater or ponds to kill algae, they are no good for saltwater Here is some info what output is required to kill protozoa. i doubt any cheap Uv will do it. on the "kill power" needed for the corresponding Micro-Organisms. Waterborne Algae 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Common Bacteria 15,000 to 30,000 æW sec/cm2 Protozoa (Ich) 45,000 æW sec/cm2 Fungi 45,000 æW sec/cm2
Fmxmatt
Yep process went well. Took just over an hour though so dont wanna go doing that again in a hurry

jolliolli
Great blenny shot  definitely my favourite fish. Looks really nice matt, i prefer the way you have aquascaped to the before shot. The way you have done it has made it appear as though you have more corals than before. Question for you, do you turn your sand over much? both tank shots you don't have much diatom algae, from memory we both set up our tanks at the same time but i have a lot more diatom coverage on my rocks, glass etc. Seeing as your not on ro/di either i'm interested to know if you experience as much diatom algae. Fmxmatt
I syphon the sand about once a week with my water changes, but to be honest most of that just turns over and bugger all gets syphoned up. I dont find it too much of an issue if I can keep my PO4 down. I also scrub the front glass daily with an algae scrubber, because I"ll often get home from work to find a fine layer of brown algae on the glass. Got a pic of your tank jolliolli? wasp
Nice Blenny, i think it is the same as the one i used to have, and they do have quite a personality. At some future point i can imagine you might get rid of even more of the rock, it looks good at the moment, but in a couple of years when corals have grown a lot you might find a bit more will have to come out. Fmxmatt
its alright if I need to move any rock out as all of the smaller pieces are on the top of the pile. Midway through next year I plan on getting a 4ft tank with sump so everything will change again anyway
wilson
. Midway through next year I plan on getting a 4ft tank with sump so everything will change again anyway its a good thing you didnt get rid of the rock then it will speed up the cycling of the new tank
Fmxmatt
Well theoretically I shouldn't need to cycle the new tank if I'm using all the stuff out of the old tank? Although if I decide i want sand, I will probably get hold of a heap of that and cycle it seperately well before I get the tank
Zhacque
I like it too.. Personally I think the rock arrangement is more pleasing to the eye now! And you gotta try these things with filtering.. If it's cheap and it works...! Our replacement moonlights for the RSM cost $3 for a strip of 7 blue LEDs from 'a major trading website'! Works really well! Oh and I got a better 12VDC power supply for free, but that's a perk of my work! :bounce:
