underwatergal
We have decided it is time to rehome our turtles into an outside pond - and am stumped on fencing ideas - we need something that will keep the children out and the turtles in - and is reasonably cost effective - any ideas would be appreciated. Also any other tips for putting in a pond - want to get it right first time so any info would be great.
Tsarmina
from what i remember reading, you need to have a fence that goes a reasonable depth as turtles dig.
livingart
corrugated coloursteel, build like a low fence about i metre out of ground to keep kids out and 200 to 300 mm in ground to stop digging out also can use security fencing or pool fence with gaps small enough to stop escapes, turtles climb well though go to local roofing company for offcuts or buy 2nd hand corrugated and paint the colour of yyour choice, zinc prime the bit inground or rustproof old parapool surround is good too good luck
repto
mine is raised up above groundlevel and has no filters etc as they could not cope with the load anyway.when it gets too murkey I can just pull the plug rinse it out and fill it up,you could have a standing pipe and trickle new water in slowly but I have a well and pump and have topay for that??It is just an old fibreglass spa type pool sitting on the ground, drain underneath and iron sheets on to wood frame filled up with soil/sand etc to the top of the pool and the sides go up higher so you stand beside it and look in if that makes sense?it is a fair volume of water so it takes a while to get really stinky depending how often and what I feed them.
