OscarBoy
Well recently when i feed my oscars and other fish the oscars seem to jump out of the tank the jump quite high but they will never get over the tank hood. any ideas why they would do this?? Warren
They are hungry and want the food. When I kept Oscars, they did this all the time. It's also a good way to get the food before any other fish does - survival of the fittest. In the wild, most fish will jump out of the water to catch bugs or friut growing on trees overhanging the water. Was a good party trick... OscarBoy
hahaha ok they eat heaps any way... can u feed them like shrimp from supermarkets etc??
northland chic
Yip, my oscars like shrimp. I buy little bags 2inchx1inch (50 or 100 bags for $4.50)and freeze a few per bag also can put one mussel per bag, makes for quick easy feeding. Afrikan
With oscars it doesn't always mean feed them more.. they are greedy and can gorge themselves silly at times to the point where they can end up with problems, as Warren said, they want to be first to the nosh before anyone else, total survival of the fittest instinct and greed

sharn
Usually feeding at different places in the tank can help or being sneaky and popping it in when hes distracted with something else. Many people have ended up with crispy oscars on the floor from them jumping so definatly keep the lid on tight. My boy smashed his 6mm glass lids and now has 10mm glass plates to keep him in the water
