SilverBlade86
Is it common to have a male Betta that refuses to flare? I've had him ever since he was 2-3cm and I've never once seen him flare. I assume he's a male as he keeps on blowing bubble nests.
Tsarmina
have you put a mirror in front of him for a while?
Adrienne
He's not likely to flare unless there is a mirror by the tank, either stick one to the outside of the tank or hold one where he can see his reflection in it, or, get another male and put a divider between them and they'll flare at each other. SilverBlade86
I have left mirrors near him before, but he just ignores it. He either is too cool to fight or just scared of his own reflection.
Dixon1990
Just tried to get my fighter to flare. He doesnt want to do it either:-?
SilverBlade86
Hm, after I posted my message I left the mirror there while I went and had something to eat. I came back to see him finally flaring. Awesome stuff. I think that he gets scared when I put the mirror down near the tank, cause he assumes that I'm gonna net him out of it. Try leaving it there for a while.
VinsonMassif
One of my male Betta's doesn't flare up. He seems entirely uninterested in any refection, other fish, other Betta's. So I just leave him alone. If he wasn't so beautiful and ate out of my hand at feeding I might have made plans to give him away.
Caper
From what I'm reading in this thread, is it more "common" (for lack of better term :-? ) for them to flare, then not to flare...hehe that is the question? Caper

SpidersWeb
Get them a lady friend. That helps.
SilverBlade86
Bought a girl for him just now. She's still quite small so I'll have to fatten her up abit. I've put them in the same tank with a divider in the middle. Even though I am not going to try to breed them just yet will this be fine? The barrier is transparent and I can hear him ramming the barrier.
