Dancer17
Does anyone have any recommendations for getting rid of black beard algae in a goldfish tank
jolliolli
Flourish excel will do the trick, do a search on the forum for blackbeard algae and you'll find several threads on it
jn
Are you sure it's beard algae? It has to be fuzzy and stand up like stubble I think. If it doesn't it could be brown algae which is completely different I only say this cause I was dumb enough to mistake some wierd brown algae for beard algae in my first tank.. it was purplish black so I didn't think it was 'brown algae' but it wasn't brushlike. I wasted alot of money on flourish excel and it did nothing to help me Got a picture?
me love fishy
I just try scraping the inside of the glass with an old credit card and removing parts of plants with it on and I have siamese algae eaters. I have found that one of my tanks has it, while the other one never has, don't know why that is.
Dancer17
Yea it definatley is black beard. I got slack with my goldfish tank and it totally consumed it then I basically cleaned out everything and scrubbed it off everything and it was gone for about 4 weeks now is starting to come back. Might try the flourish excel stuff this time
Stella
Do any of the algae chemicals control brown algae? Am sick of the stuff, really wish there were native algae eaters.
jn
I never tried personally. My problem went away when my tank matured. I added more plants too which I think may have helped.
