Metal Halides again

Recommended Posts

Hi our tank has been going now for 6 months.

we made our lighting hood using second hand components from fellow forum members and it is all working well.

I think the second hand halide lights are at the end of their life now as the light from them is very yellow.

We have 3 - 150 Watt mh's that we should replace.

Does anybody have any recommendations on type and avalibility.

Our hood also has 2 Phillips 30W Aquarelle Fluoros does any body have any thoughts on these.

I purchased some coralvue 150W Double end lamps. I have found the lamps to be good, they are 20K, so are a slight blue hue, unlike the 10K aquamedic ones you have, which would be more of a yellow.

I haven't heard of the Aquarelle lamps. Are they T5 or T8? Do you have a local shop in Dunedin, they might have something

Can you post a new picture of your tank on your build thread:

Curious how it is going ! :D

There are only a few brand of bulbs but most have been rebadged,

Most hobbyist go for 14k which is middle of the in blue, however not all bulbs are the same as all 14k bulbs can look different,

The bluer you go the less light output, so 20k bulbs las about 6 mouth vs 10k will last 18 months before you get a big colour shift,

The worst bulbs are the asia bulbs as they are cheap vs the german bulbs which cost more however they give far better lighting.
