Hi I have got my marine gear from all over the place, from fellow forum members and my dad also made most of the expensive parts of the tank e.g the lights the protein scimmer and the cabinet.

I have now got 3 new fish two Bangai Cardanalls and a manderinfish (my favourite) This is my tank (picture taken today) ] The brown algae on the back of the glass and rock still hasn't gone away does any body know if this every will? because its looking pretty ugly.. would growing macro algae in the sump help make it go away? What types of macro algae are available for growing in the sump and how would I go about getting it My sump is lit at night with a metal halide. thanks Oli p.s this is my manderin fish called mandy after my mum :lol:

Hi our tank has been going now for 6 months. we made our lighting hood using second hand components from fellow forum members and it is all working well. I think the second hand halide lights are at the end of their life now as the light from them is very yellow. We have 3 - 150 Watt mh's that we should replace. Does anybody have any recommendations on type and avalibility. Our hood also has 2 Phillips 30W Aquarelle Fluoros does any body have any thoughts on these.

I have a deep sand bed and so i think i need some worms or something were can i get some? Cheers Oli

Also what should i feed them??

I cleaned an ice cream container and put some holes in the bottom and stuck that in her tank with her in it so now if she has anymore they can swimm away and she cant eat any =)

Its just the other tank already has a tang 2 clowns 2 shrimp so anything born in their will be eaten so i just have a choice of let her stay in tank she is in now and maybe have a few more or put her in other tank and if she has any more they will be eaten by the other fish

My molly just had about 9 babies but im not sure if i should take her out of the tank and into my other tank incase she has more do you guys think she will eat them?

Oh they are all old but are good enoguh while we are cycling and for fish only. I think dhindry might sell them... he gave me mine

Our tank has been cycling for a month now. Its a scary and exiciting time like embarking on world trip. A years planning, packed and ready to go We are exited but its dawning on us the enormity of it all. The next few steps will be the real thing. Any way a question for you guys and girls our 200 liter tank looses about 2 litres per day in evaporation. Topping it up every day will require our investment in some water purifying equipment, a RO unit. So any reccomendations on systems appreciated. But a bigger problem than keeping the tank topped up will be keeping our house dry. And our light box dry, when the lights are off condensation on the cold glass light lens is keeping the wooden lightng box dripping wet, not good. Any ideas Has any one tried recovering the water that evaporates by building a condencer that runs the condensate back into the tank?

Ill get dad to post the details later. It uses a small pump in the sump to circulate water up through the hundred diameter tube and then back down to the sump. The small tube takes the water back to te sump, it slides up and down to controll the water level in the large tube. At the bottom of the large tube are three large air stones which fill the column with bubbles. The foam trap at the top is off a cheap $30 skimmer. Dad still has to get the compresser going so we havent tried it yet.

The tank has only been runing for about 11 days now. Soon i will try to get a picture of it with the MH on and the fluro's and the led's (they are awsome)

I made a cool watter pump to circulate the watter with some help from my dad... (I put lots of holes in the top so that water would come into the bucket and then the pump pump's it through a tube back into the tank) (you can see it in the tank here) The pump in the bucket is a Rio Hyperflow 17HF

the tank got a bit noisy... (dad put some foamy stuff on the inside of the tank to keep it quiet) (oh and also does any one know what this orange stuff on the coral is??)

(just the bulbs and stuff) (just thought i'd show this seeing i got it for free im using it in my sump ) (Wires and stuff in the light hood :roll: ) (dad made some hinges for the light hood)
