They have bred a couple of times, but haven’t got passed the wiggler stage. Im sure if I move the pair into there own tank and feed them up on fry they would spawn and raise successfully. I think you should get yours going plenty of people interested in Alto’s Anyway it is good to find a few people with this neat fish I think mine are red fins but not really sure might have a mixture One thing I have noticed is when one sizes another up probably 2 males They darken up in colour almost instantly quite amazing to watch The black stripes almost disappear and the fish ends up almost chocolate brown. herefishiefishie Posted October 22, 2007 Report Share Posted October 22, 2007 They take about 2 years to mature. Usually that means 1 1/2 years after purchase, if you got them at 3cm. If anyone wants tips on raising fry let me know. I will post what works for me & tips I got from other breeders. Another thing, fanatic. These are big on jumping. Fill up any little holes or gaps, they will find them. When raising multiple altos. Use a tank with no rocks etc. They will form territories. The smaller & weaker will be picked on, they won't feed as much, get beaten up & also brings me back to the jumping. :roll: Keep the water very clean too. cichfanatic Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Share Posted October 22, 2007 Thanks Herefishiefishie I found out the hard way with there ability to jump lost one from the quarantine tank Seems he found the one tiny gap where the hoses enter tank That tank now has no gaps Sad day They seem to be ok in the 6 footer with my other Tanganyikans for now The 6footer has no gaps and a secure light hood Water is kept very clean with good filtration and 2 weekly partial water changes and regular gravel vac The fish seem to be doing ok and getting bigger I would really like to have ago at breeding these later on Maybe setup a tank for a breeding pair Any pointers on how best to go about this would be greatly appreciated And also on the raising of fry Thanks for your advice and help Chicfanatic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
