AquaOne Internal Filters

I recently got an AquaOne 102F Internal Filter and will hopefully be setting up my tank this weekend (stoked!!).

It says to fully submerse it and that it shouldn't touch the substrate but I'm worried that it is too tall for my tank once I have added substrate. So is it ok for the outlet fitting to sit above the water? Or for the top of the unit to sit slightly out of the water?

And it has a venturi piece which I'm not entirely sure what it is for? Does it suck air in and blow bubbles out with the filtered water?

If you have this filter or one similar, can you please post a pic of how it is set up in your tank?

Thanks in advance :)

Yup.. I have 101 and a 103. Both mine have to be completely submerged or they suck air in around the top of the filter and make a heck of a noise as the bubbles goes through the impeller. The Ehiem internal filters have the impeller at the bottom, so you can run them with the top sticking out of the water.

The little venturi thing sits in the outlet and the airline goes out the top of the tank. It streams a few bubbles into the outlet. It is handy as a guage of how gunked up the filter is. When the water slows down it doesn't suck bubbles any more and you know it's time to clean it out.

Also make sure the air inlet stays on top of the tank so there is no chance it can syphon water out of the tank :o

Cheers

I have a 101 in my 60x30x45 tank, along with about 100 guppies. It seems to do the job OK. I have an air bubble curtain as well and do a lot of water changes (30-40% week), but it seems to handle that size tank.

The 103 would blow the guppies out of the water :o

iv got 2 of the 1200LPH not sure which model, they do a good job if you dont have to many fish, but when you have a a few big fish the filter media starts getting clogged up and doesnt filter very well so you have to clean the filters more often. oh and when your filter is first used it is really powerfull so dont put it where it will aim directly at fish.

well that makes me feel a bit better as I just set it up and the filter is blowing everything around the tank. The plants are swaying in the current, is this normal?
