LoGaN
Is schist rock alright for putting in fish tanks ?
Matthew
should be. Do the old vinegar test ( a drop of vinegar onto the rock and if it bubbles the rock is no good for aquariums).

Caryl
schist is fine. It fizzes more than bubbles if it is not suitable. A few fine bubbles like yours are just air bubbles.
cat
If it wasnt so dear I would be using it in a tank. I wanted to setup a chichlid tank using it but when I saw the cost involved I decided against it. When you want to fill the back of the tank to the top with the stuff it worked out too dear. I would love to try that artifical one with the Poly but I am not that smart or patient! So far just sticking to the community type tanks. Matt
Have you checked out your local garden centre for schist rather than a pet store? Palmers down the road from me sell bags of it for much less than the pet store. I bought a bag about 12 inches high and 6 inches across for $12.00, I will check the weight of it when I get home. Cheers Matt
Ira
Landscaping places are good too. Usually good selection and I think they're something like a buck a kilo.

Caryl
We pick it up off the side of the road whenever we go over Takaka way Or I think it's schist - Nice flattish stuff?
MGilchrist
See it on the roadside going through to Central Otago here. Caryl how do you find it, are the edges sharp? could it cut the fish? have always thought about throwing some in the back of the ute but was unsure how it would go. Caryl
We have never had trouble with it thought the ehdes can be sharp. It is good to make caves with as it is so stackable.

Robbo w
If anyone is looking for rocks, stones, pebbles etc. in the auck. region, Eden stone and water world in Marua rd. Ellerslie is worth a look. Some things are expensive and many may be unsuitable, but they have a HUGE range.
