imsweet
I have been offered a huge tank to buy. Its 4ft long, (cant remember the litre volume), maybe a metre higfh, with a black hood, internal lights, 2x filters and matching stand. The owner has got a new - bigger one getting made, so no need for this one. No idea on the brand of filters but they would be the best on the market, it cost them over 2000 to buy seperate. Looked on TM to try to get a comparison, but not much luck. If anyone can give me a rough price that would be great thanks.
herefishiefishie
If you can find out the dimensions may help. The bigger the tank in height, the thicker the glass, therefore the dearer the price. {let us know the width too} Picture will be great, what quality is the stand & hood? Whats it made off. For me I couldn't even stab in the dark. Frenchy
tHEcONCH
Second hand tanks are not worth much by comparison to new stuff - obviously they are used, they don't have a warranty, and you don't know its history. If it really is a metre tall, you might have difficulty getting enough light penetration to grow certain things in there, and pumps don't last forever. I would expect to pay around 25-30% of the new price, assuming everything is in good working order. If it cost $2000 new, that's about $500-600 max. evil_elmo
depends on the brand of equipment, condition of equipment but second hand tanks normally are pretty cheap
ryanjury
I sold a tank that was 120cm x 120cm x 45cm for $200 including a budget stand that I made out of 4 x 2 and lids.. That was in 15mm glass no matter how much you think a tank is worth they're bloody hard to sell
imsweet
I saw the tank about 2 months ago but cant remember a thing about it. (mushy brain syndrome  ) Have asked hubby to find out more details for me, he works with the guy. As we are hoping to move soon, its not the best investment i could make. imsweet
no matter how much you think a tank is worth they're bloody hard to sell Good point there but i think if we did end up getting this, that would be the last one!! We might just have to invest in those plastic fish that the daughter plays with in the bath so there's no mess, no feeding, easy to catch, no breeding, doesnt matter about the tap water etc etc.

Ianab
Well there is a tank about that size on Trademe, located in Hawera, has a heater, small filter and light + a small table. $100 buy now :-? OK, the one you are looking at might be nicer, better filter, lights and stand. But thats the sort of price S/H fish tanks go for. Cheers Ian
ryanjury
Yeah for sure Regardless of what they cost new the second hand value is pretty low, it really cracks me up when I see people trying to get $500 on trademe for a 3ft tank and a filter and light
shadowfax
i struck it lucky & got a 3ft on tm for 50c but i wouldn't pay much for a second hand one, my new 4ft 350L tank from wetpets was only $
imsweet
Hey thanks people for all the replys, youre right in saying it might be nice looking and all, but honestly we cant afford it if we want to move. PLUS hubby wants to go down to palmy this weekend and it could be a chance for me to do a bit of looking at wet pets. (love that place), Any other pet shops down there worth a look? SpidersWeb
I'd expect around the 200-300 mark.
ryanjury
Wet pets is the only shop worth a look, they got in some new stock yesterday so they actually have some fish Nothing special but they seem to go a long time before getting new fish in. What type of fish do you keep?
imsweet
Shubunkins, Calico fantails & WCMM outside, 3 Fantails inside and my new guppy set up with about 30ish++++. Oh and the apple snails who are now banned to a tank of their own. I'm after some nice looking guppys as i'm weeding out the boring colours. or maybe a couple of sunset platys, or maybe..... I'll stop there. The list goes on.
spidey
my boss in the last 4months has been making tanks around 1100-1200x500x500 and selling on trademe for $60 well most of the time me making them but they are selling so fast, me and him just made a turtle tank 1100x1100x400 with sectioned off corner for sun bathing and he sold it for $200 most of the glass is secondhand that we use and cut down to size to make them,so it's a new tank but old glass(well not to old because its to brittle)does that affect the price? :-? Ianab
The silicon will fail before the glass gets old Silcon will last for decades, glass lasts for centuries.
imsweet
I went to look at the tank today, its a Jebo R 3100 series. It has 3 switches on the hood for the lights. It has a Jebo filter that sucks in one side, then goes thru the hood, out a pipe into filter wool then out thru the other side. It also has another part that makes the water flow from one side to the other. Quite nice, but hmmm, dont know.
ryanjury
how was the trip to wet pets? I actually brought some fish from that shop in Wanga's in the weekend got 2 huge (hopefully female) blue dolphins for stuff all didn't think id ever find anything I would buy in there.. Maybe you can buy this tank its a bargain  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 401636.htm
imsweet
Ha Ha HA, real bargain. Lucky i dont live near aucks otherwise i'd get it. Unfortunatley we didnt make it to palmy. No one to babysit the lamb. :-? And we spent the whole weekend cleaning up , (house going on the market) But I have made it quite clear i'm keen on going.,.... soon. I just went to something fishy saturday morning and looked, pressed my face to the glass and thought i'd like that one and that one. Real nice blue-ish gouramis there. Wonder if they'd get along with my guppies?? BUT last time i went there was a decomposing body in one of the tanks. I was intending on getting some wee panda corys but at $14 a pop i re-thought if i really needed them. Maybe get a second job to help fund things.
