CMG
FYI Mitch Kenyi all oringinally look blue. As they grow larger, if they are males they will transform to yellow, if female they then stay blue. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=
mitch
yes i looked up kenyi and i ended up on a site called cichlid madness and what do know there they were, so yes you are right. They are a nice looking fish. It said they live for 10 years so that is also good. (did you see the offspring)

mitch
yes i am really happy, I had two tanks one with Cichlids & one with Gourams, cherrys etc in it. It took awhile to pick a group so im happy i stayed with Cichlids. I have only been doing this for just over a year and it has been a up and down ride, but i think things are now looking up

herefishiefishie
male is blue when they are small Cheers, know that. Just a question for others that keep lombardoi. Anyone else think the ones in pic 3 don't look right then? One of them has 7 prominent bars, not right to me sorry. Frenchy
Freakyfish
I dont think its a Lombardoi either Do you have a pic of both adults you have as Lombardoi?? Brad
herefishiefishie
Probably those in pic 1 & 7 Brad. Pic 6 isn't one either. Frenchy
mitch
when i started with cichlids i brought 3 ( they called them Blue Zebras) and 3 Electric yellows. They got bigger one of the Blue ones changed in coloration. I had a change around in the tank and found the juveniles in a cave i had put in there. I thougt they wre one thing looking in my book but GMC made me Google Kenyi and what do you know i did have a Metriaclima as i thought but it was a sub Kenyi not a Zebra as i frist thought. I only added a Auratus last week and the 12cm Bristlenose has been there for about 6 months eating eggs. Oh got some platies in ther as well (they do get on well) I will how ever say that the kennyi in my book doz not look the same. Tiden
I was thinking the same as hff and ff. I thought that kenyi didnt have that many vert. bars? So do you have kenyi and some blue zebras in their?
mitch
as i said i brought 3 ( they called them Blue Zebras) AND 3 Electric yellows from the same place at the same time. the fish you are looking at are the off spring of those Fish Pic 7 is a male the other two are female as they are still blue http://www.cichlidmadness.com/forums/in ... opic=17681 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metriaclima http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/af ... 100002.asp See if the above can put light on things
mitch
did some more picks..... 1&4 is the male 2&3 are the females it would be good to sort this out (the young are in the back ground)
herefishiefishie
The fry are a hybrid. They look nothing like lombardoi. That proves that something you have is either a cross breed, or the one of females are not lombardoi. The females barring isn't right to true lombardoi, especially the one in the 3rd pic. I will add the male looks like a lombardoi. What does worry me in him is the black edging in his anal fins. Not a trait of lombardoi. Compare to these pics, none show black edging in anal fins & compare the body barrings. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=798 Like you said you bought them as blue zebras. That is all that they are. Sorry. Frenchy
mitch
what about Pseudotropheus lombardoi? Rember he was blue http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/af ... 100002.asp (we are talking about the last set of pics?)
Freakyfish
The fry are not Lombardoi The Male does look fairlyu ok to me and probably a true Lombardoi but I dont think the females are I would guess one or both of the females are a Zeb/Lomb mix and hence the fry arent showing true Lombardoi features Pseudotropheus lombardoi and Metriaclima Lombardoi are the same fish just a new name Im 100% they are not true Lombardoi Brad
mitch
i dont know they were the size of my little finger when i got them blue with dark markings and the labidochromis caerules were smaller. What i do know is they came frm the same tank set up as i have so may be the get mixted there
