  1. FYI Mitch Kenyi all oringinally look blue. As they grow larger, if they are males they will transform to yellow, if female they then stay blue. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=798
  2. Hi Mitch nice tank, what is the fish in the top photo it looks like a Kenyi to me.
  3. Well the electric yellow didnt make it through the night, we got the metro stuff from the vet this mornin, but must have been to late cause the ice blue died not long ago. All of the other fish seem fine so hopefull no more get sick. Thanks for everyones help! If anyone has an ice blue female for sale or have young ice blues let us know. Our male ice blue keeps harrasing the aurora female so we need to get him a mate asap!
  4. the only change to there diet was the brine shrimp flake whihc we started giving them about a month ago.
  5. we normally feed them algae sticks for cichlids and cichlid pellets, also brine shrimp flake and spirilina flake. do i need to treat all the fish or just the ones that are displaying symptoms
  6. Yea we stuck them in a tank by themselves and put some empson salt in earlier today when we put the ice blue out there. I hope she makes it we just sold our extra female ice blue last week! and the electric yellow is our only female sofar that will breed! Ill have to go to the vet in the morning and get some medicine, thanks for your help
  7. I dont erally want to stress them out more with camera flashes. They both look like they normally do the ice blue is just a bit darker than normal. Neither of them have abdominal swelling. The electric yellow is just slow moving and hanging out near the bottom and hiding. the ice blue lies on the bottom and then will swim a bit but she is a bit wobbly. and they both seem to be breathing alot faster than normal I think it probably is bloat they seem to have the symptoms, the ice blue in particular. I have no idea why these two have got it, i hope no more do
  8. we have an electric yellow now who is not very active and just sitting on the bottom. All the other fish seem fine, could it be anything else besides bloat?
  9. hopefully she can hold out a bit longer untill we get some medicine tomorro. Do you just get it from the pet shop?
  10. after reading that article it seems like she could possibly be in the late stages of bloat. what symptoms did your one have before you medicated her. With everything shut today we cant get ahold of the medication she will need.
  11. She looks the same size but now that you mentioned her anus. Her waste seems to come out white instead of the standard brown.
  12. She is breathing faster than normal, and I just had a look at her again and she does appear darker than normal
  13. No she is pretty much the same colour as she always is.
  14. our ice blue female has not been eating for the last few days or so, and has been very queit not swimming much and hiding, we took her out and put her in a tank by herself, and I have just found her lying on the bottom, still breathing but it is not looking good. it doesnt look like she has any fight wounds and all our other fish seem fine. Does any one have any ideas what is wrong with her or what we could possibly do??
  15. no, no cross breeding just the ice blue male and female involved!
  16. We watched our ice blues breeding the other night which was really cool. The male and female were going round and round in circles and every now in then she would let 5 or so eggs out and quickly turn around and grab them, the male managed to eat a couple of them and so did an electric yellow! Was amazing though I didnt think we would actually catch them doing it.

    How many fry?

our electric yellow held for the first time about a month ago and she had 11 fry and she is about 5-6 cm. She is holding again now so waiting to see how many she has this time
  18. Just an update, we stripped 11 babies and they only had a little bit of egg sack left and are doing really well. We are so happy! this is the first time one of our fish have had babies
  19. Thats so cool, congrats! I think we are going to strip her sometime this week coming. I will have to let you guys know how many we get, shes only about 4cm big so will be interesting to see
  20. What temp did you have your tank when you were stripping after 2 weeks. Our female has been holding for only 11 days that we know of and she is boldging so much!
  21. How long do electric yellows hold for? How long do you need to wait before you can strip the babies out?

    Water Hardness

We just have some black small pebbles and then the limestone rocks. I have been thinkin about getting coral sand. Is it hard to keep clean though?

    Water Hardness

What is the best way to increase the water hardness in an african tank. We have just realised the water hardness is way to low in our tank so have added limestone rocks. Will these be sufficient, or what else could we use. Cheers
  24. Have not tried to vent them yet, although I would like to give it a shot. Can you do it with just the naked eye or do you need like a magnifying glass?
  25. I have three of these. Would you agree they are zebra ice blue females?
